Spring Barley N content!

Has anyone else had their SB tested yet? Just had results back. Odyssey has come back at 1.37N. It had 38kg N straight after planting and a further 77kg's once tramlines visible. The Quench has come back at 1.32N. It also had 38kg's N straight after planting but a further 92kg's at the second split.

Is very low grain N the norm this year?

Yes I spoke to my merchant on Tuesday and most are coming back at 1.3-1.4. I should get the results for my first cut odessey tomorrow.

That will be worth blending out so keep it separate. With lots of low N about there will be premiums for 1.85+ & deductions for sub 1.55. High yields diluting the Ns here, which I don't mind at all - extra tonnes with claims is better than less tones at full spec!

In any other year, yes I'd agree. The lager maltsters & export markets I grow for want 1.85 N. 1.5 N is no good. If I have low Ns then I'm not alone.

Not cut any yet but not surprised that it is a low N year.
Loads of rain May and first half of June should have made all N available early on then more or less dry since then.

none away on lorry yet but combine yield meter showing an average of 2.7. Will no better on Monday when we start loading lorrys.

All 600 tons of propino came in at between 1.2-1.33N but did yield well ,had 130kg /N put on in 2 hits.

We were dry til 10pm then the heavens opened only 6 mm so not too bad but Sunday /Monday don't look good
