Spring barley sowing date

What's latest you can sow it an get a viable crop? Weathers not looking great only got 20 acre but will take a few days to dry up.

Another fortnight, but you have to be seriously keen to want a potentially very poor crop and late harvest. Not much worse than a thin crop of barley all brackled over.

I've drilled 3rd of may before an cut around 20th of september.the weather can turn around then up here.my neighbour didn't get 35 acre last year.

Most of Canada's crops are sown in May but are Varieties that have a days to harvest score mostly always less than 100.

You have time yet. Just up the seed rate. There is lots still to sow round me. Drove down to Stirling today and and only saw one drill going at Stonehaven. Lots of brown fields, admittedly a lot will be going into spuds or peas but I bet a lot are still destined for spring barley.

Conditions are just as important as the date.
Barley can yield okay if sown in May in good conditions.

Fine seedbed, well rolled after sowing and with favourable growing conditions, it can romp away and be ready to harvest early September.

Just my experience and my opinion.

Wouldn't worry about date, better to get it in right. The right weather is better than all the chemicals on the market

This is true. Ive had oats go from planted to in the shed in exactly 3 months.

Locally theres a fair bit that went in in early March that looks complete poop.

Latest I've sown was the 11th May took the view it was worth a go, worse case scenario dry the land out better then fallow.
Actually yielded better then ever expected and far better then some much earlier drilled.
The unknown is the weather that follows drilling, that makes all the difference, personal thought if you can drill in the next couple of weeks in good conditions may well be better then a lot that's been forced in over the last couple of months.
