Stolen JD greenstar

Beware greenstar users there has been a lot of GPS kits stolen in the last few weeks in the Norfolk and lincs area
My advice is to take them of at night if left in a open shed or the field or lock them away

my bet is its going to poland

remember a while back when there was a lot of JD tractors going missing and they all ended up in poland, some were caught on the lorries getting ready to leave the UK

Would have thought that if registered as stolen, once fired up again they would become detectable or at least disabled. Haven't had a serious look at mine but is there the facility to set up a password on a JD system?

wouldnt be hard for any manufacturer to build a password/keycode into them, car radios have had them for years

or alternitavely, ceasar tag the reciver and the screen seperate to the tractor????

Once it's gone it gone untraceable only until someone want to put a unlock of signal on it

Sadly no lockable pass code

Best way is not to leave it in at night
You would leave you iPad / phone or sat nav in your car on display in tesco car park

can you track a Topcon reciever ?

if you could that would be a great feature to enable - handy for farm office to track work progress but maybe also insurance discounts if it can help ring fence alarm or locate stolen machines ??

Local jd dealer here had 2 nicked a few weeks ago. when they turned them on in Poland The jd system picked up their location and the tractors were recovered.

I don't see why you cannot turn ignition on and before it works you input a password, like an iPad. 3 wrong and it won't function. If enough users pester Deere, they will have to listen. By the time you have Autotrac, section control you are into 10's of K's. you would not leave you're phone without a pass code would you?

CPP trouble is I just put it in my pocket and walk off. Screen has big electric plug and a big screw. The tit needs you to stand on the bonnet and again small pin electrical connectors which over time are bound to get bent.

the recievers are able to be locked on if i remember correct. not the strongest of locks but something. also not a problem to lock screen to mounting bracket! modify one of the bolts mounting to pillar and its fairlly secure. there is no way i will be removing from machine every night , Pain in the arse.

would it not be possible to fit the reciever/screen fixings with those special "security" nuts, the type what require a special spanner, similar to locking wheel nuts on cars etc, not much of a deterrent i know, but would maybe stop "oppourtunist" thefts

thing is, if someone is determined enough they are going to have it, there is very little you can do short of removing it and taking it home

yup should be possible, just the adjustable joint on the arm would either need a hole and a lock through it or welded nut and security bolt , any security devices just make it more of a pain in the arse for normal use.

good point, bloke i worked for was security conscious, insisted all the toolboxes had locks on and the tractor keys were stored in an unlocked shed on the other side of the yard to the tractor shed, faceplates were taken off the radios and put in there box along with the radio removal "keys" , then it was put behind the seat

The faceplate removal was a visual deterrent at least, despite the ignition keys being generic until recently.

Why can't the GPS kit manufacturers write in security codes or user names + passwords? It's just software after all. My X20 sprayer computer is a Windows XP tablet so that should be easy enough.
