Talk Talk vs BT

We have been with Talk Talk since the days of them being Tiscali when we first got broadband in this area, and we have been getting ever slower speeds. Finally became sick of unusable Internet and changed to BT, now got more than 10x the speed we had before!

Still pretty rubbish but it's actually useable now

Who would have thought it was actually possible to watch a video without buffering!

Just goes to show how some providers aren't being truthful and throttling speeds as we were endlessly told we couldn't get any faster due to the length of the line

We are also with talk talk, and have been since the tiscali days, over christmas we lost broadband most days due to all the kids being home, rung up and complained and speed has improved, but they are so difficult to deal with as you have to go through the Indian call centre and I fine the operators very hard to understand. Can very rarely use I player, and my patience normally runs out with youtube.
Is is easy to change, I use a tiscali email address at the moment, would I be able to keep it.

TT are rubbish , I changed to bt 5 years ago, bit dodgy initially but last 2 years been excellent , I'm sure you can get it cheaper but there's 5 devices here so need a bit oomph.
You can access tiscali emails through the web mail , still got mine but haven't checked it for a year or 3

Ah! I cancelled Tiscali when I went broadband with BT. After cancelling their account you will not be able to send emails on their account, but two years later I still receive emails on the account with no problem whether through Windows Live Mail, Apple Mail or the three phone systems mail [iOS, W8 or Android/Gmail]. I really should tell the fallen stock people and Ian Potter and a few others to change to another email, but the point is that you won't miss anything from your inbox. Its been two years or more since I cancelled their account.

OMG a ping of 49 is a terrible connection tbh! i game with a 5-10 ping and if it gets much higher the connection is affected badly, people dont always think a ping is important BUT IT IS! its as important as the UL/DL speeds! & a 3.79DL speed is TERRIBLE! i live in a village in Cambridgeshire and im on the 50 meg VM package but i can get the 120Meg but its too expensive for now, if you need any more help just reply im always here for you :)

Oooo, yes please
We are over 2 miles from our unbundled (is that the word?) BT exchange
By fitting a new router and a filtered faceplate we have managed to increase from 2.5 to 3.5Meg

How can we get 50 Meg??

The way a Fibre speed is assessed is by a few reasons and one of the main ones is the distance from cabinet/exchange to the house, it shocks me people are STILL on dialup in this country when we need the investment and yet our government is sending billions abroad? But without going political i think the first thing you need to do is have a look online see what ISP's are doing in your area IF they are not offering a decent speed which i think in todays day of age EVERY house in the UK should be able to reach speeds of 40Meg with a 20ping max, but im no network engineer, If all ISP's are offering you below 10 meg thats really bad you must be in a really rural area? What i have spoke to people last year was getting sick of the government not investing in rural areas when they should & ISP's missing them out as well so communities have been getting a group of people together one a digger driver and one a banksman with a team of engineers and fitting the Fiber themselves! it isnt that much hard work IF you have the right people teaming up with you, the villages have noticed a Phenomenal difference in speed since they did a DIY Fiber installation & i for one would help out as well...

I suspect that you can't get Fibre (the English spelling) connection in an unbundled exchange - can you??
Even if we could, how would we lay cables for 2+ miles over private property economically??

JB yes ive noticed this is a farming forum? Having a decent Internet connection affects almost everyone now a days, some years ago Broadband was classed as a luxury it is now a necessity a part of life, Farmers can also do their bit if they want to as they might own the land that Fiber (Fibre as you put it?) needs to be buried in, as i stated above You need a team of people like Farmers who want to move forwards their business and have a decent internet connection instead of waiting and waiting for pages to load? they benefit as well they just need to be amicable and understanding the change is for everyone..& everyone wins...

BT really p**s me off though, every month in the mail I'll get a fantastic offer for high speed broadband on fibre.

So I ring up and ask to take up the offer, to be told 'sorry but we can't do it for you'. So stop sending the mail then, ' can't do that it's computer generated'.

We're still on copper cables here and not forecast to be getting fibre for a few years yet.

Ping 33 Down 2.92 Up 0.39

Sorry, been away, so not replied.

We live in a community of four houses - the next community is over a mile away and from there it's another mile to the village - do you seriously think that we can dig fibre cables across two miles of private property and then for a quarter of a mile down the village high street to the BT *unbundled* (steam driven) exchange.

Methinks you are being unrealistic in your suggestions

Three miles away people are getting 36Mb, twelve miles away 76Mb, we soldier on with 1Mb, unless it's raining when the speed can drop to 0.05Mb and we can't even receive emails. Now if I ring BT and complain, the speed can go up to 4Mb, but only for a week or so. I would ring them up on the mobile if I could get a signal.:( BT say that a 1Mb speed is perfectly adequate.
