The real cost of Milk Haulage ?

If they were worth keeping open, why were they closed?
A lot of business shut for various reasons, lack of investment over the years just keep running on what they got till it’s beyond economically worth doing. Come be that houses etc are built around it and the new neighbors complain about the traffic etc. Lots of reasons why they shut down.

The real problem was Sooty was on a Tesco contact and by the looks of things he did not put up a good fight for the non aligned guy's !!
Would it not help you case if ALL Muller producers showed a bit of solidarity and stood behind you guy's ?
If they pick you off who will be next?

There should be a law milk can't travel more than 60 miles unless it's for liquid market. It's tragic what they did around here closing all the modern factories .Felinfach in particular

What a stupid idea transporting a bulky commodity from one side of the country to the other....you wouldn't do that would you FT?

@Alex72 Are you guy's who are paying the haulage charge not subsidising the haulage on the Tesco milk?

If you producers are all forced out it will surely cost more to haul the Tesco milk home ?

Only Muller and Tesco know the answer to that question. But I suspect Tesco probably told Muller they can’t touch the price to the farmer.

Half the volume paying the transport has disappeared and it’s only going to decrease further.

@Alex72 Have your Muller reps not been able to do anything ? Do you have a depot to transfer milk in or around Aberdeen ?

What is the furthest you know of that Muller haul milk ?

No the reps haven’t be able to do anything.

There’s only a tanker washing facility at the Aberdeen depot, no silos.

Muller argue that in other parts where they haul milk longer distances they can milk swap.

As an ex dairy farmer who worked for one of the major processors for over 10 years, I think this thread is a bit ironic, because;

Instead of staying united, Dairy farmers chose to help the EU kill off the MMB by chasing an extra shekel wherseoever it came from, resulting in 3 or 4 different buyers collecting milk in the same area, rather than the MMB's tankers/contractors doing all the collections in a given area..

The business I worked for, know the cost of collecting from every individual supplier, and supplying every customer (if there ain't a supermarket in the same street, it isn't economical to supply the smaller retailers)

Nine out of ten dairy farmers probably don't know how much a year it costs to run each tractor or even how much they should pay for dairy cows/spend on rearing replacements
Wrong, although 'only' 50% of farmers stayed together, after a while that 50% was forcibly disbanded by our govt into 3 small co-ops.
1 went bust, 1 taken over , the other remains a shadow of its former self and has only survived by dipping its hand into its member farmers pockets as and when needed.
More money has been piddled away by farmers than any of us cares to imagine trying to stick together and clever dicks like you would do well to not rewrite history.

So half the farmers went their own various ways chasing extra money thereby breaking up the wholesale market which was just what the processors wanted. They knew that "Divide & Rule" was the way forward for them
