Thermodurics

Over the last 6 weeks or so we have had serious issues with our therms.
we have replaced our plate cooler. Changed parts on the milk pump. Changed a few silicone parts . All the rubber in the parlour was replaced during the dry period.
we have found an issue in the vacuum line where by a little bit of frothy milk is getting in during milking so we are now rinsing with circulation water after each milking.
The therms have fallen but are still over 3000
we currently don’t do a post circulation rinse of the parlour and would rather not start.
until this period therms have never really been a problem
Any suggestions most welcome. It’s got to the point that I am even dreaming about the issue !

Because your plant is straightforward I presume you don't have any diaphragms in situ that could have split and built gunk up the vacuum side.
We can get some impressive numbers if a shut off diaphragm gets a split.
Also presume liners are ok and no splits.
Is bacto ok.

Lots and lots of pre rinse water -(we actually put the final pera rinse from the milking before into a tub ,cover it and after the first cold water has flushed the line ,and the start of the morning hot wash ,send as much cold round as possible ,even the cold wash from the day before that we used to put round the night before to cleanse )to remove all traces (as much as possible ) from the line before doing a hot wash (ours is starting at 88 degrees c )
Circulate for 8 mins -ten max , plenty of cold water plus Pera to rinse,(which of course we store ,water saving and handy to use as a pre rinse as mentioned)

And start with a really strong milkstone remover wash before you change anything (you know all this of course)
And the vac wash ,might be worth asking your dairy man if it looks as if everything is covered /drains in right places and taps ,slides working ok too! Pera wash is good

Sounds bonkers I know ,but after our new direct to lines gone in , we regularly get a 100 therm test ,and a Bacto under 10 ,yesterdays was 5 :woot:
Only milk 60 cows , so , maybe the more you have the harder it may get?

Good luck

Check the tank wash is reaching all the tank properly. In particular check the paddle, ours needs manual scrubbing occasionally as deposits build up on it sending the bacto crazy.

Failing that I can highly recommend Tom Greenham from advance milking to look.
we got him in wales funded on farming connect in conjunction with our milk buyer.

We were chasing our tail for one. Turns out A. The tanker drivers sampler machines weren't cleaning properly thus nothing to with us.

We never had any thermo trouble before but when we changed milk companys a few years ago we consistently would get the occasional spike. At first we'd chase our tails but we could never could find anything wrong. Never could get an answer from anyone why or what was happening. We ended up only looked into it if we had a couple in a row.

Thermoduric bacteria tends to be found on soil and bedding in the cubicle house. For me I feel there's three areas to be looking at 1/ Bedding routine - making sure they are bedded up regularly, keeping their environment dry when in the house 2/ Teat Hygiene/Prep Routine - correct chemical usage and making sure the teats are well agitated/cleaned 3/ Making sure the milk lines etc are cleaned by running a hot wash above I believe 70/75 degrees.
