Tractors with power boost

Steinbauer make a chip that can be turned on and off with a switch, or a remote switch ,like when you go to unlock the car.www.steinbauer.cc/gb/ they seem a pretty good idea.IIRC Valtra had a system a dw years ago when the power could be turned up or down as and when you needed it,believe it was on the S series but i might be wrong.

What a clever thing. When I was a lad we had mechanical injection pumps that injected metered amounts of fuel so allowing the engine to develop the torque or power that was needed to do the job in hand......The idea was to keep engine RPM close to that demanded by the driver.

Why would you want a system that created a situation that allowed an engine to develop less than rated power? Seems somewhat daft to me :)

What tractors have static power boost? Got a big feed wagon on the way that needs 150hp tractor, but wondering if i'd get away with 120hp that boosts to 155.

I understand some need to be doing a certain speed- which is obviously no good for this application.
What size wagon you getting? Big farm near here ran a 6480 on a 24cube twin auger feeder for a few years,I prefer a bigger tractor on the tub mixer as it mixes quicker and saves time.

The reason I ask is it will weigh a fair doo empty, think the biggest Keenan is 14t empty, biggest load I put in my 14 rmh tub is 7.5/8 tonne so your 30 cube will hold toward 15t (paddles don't hold as much as vertical tubs) but 25t/30t behind a 120hp tractor is going some.

I can see your point. Local dealer has some good deals on very low hour 6480's at the moment- might just bite the bullet and give that a punt. Seems a lot of tractor for a feedbox though

Seems like a lot of feedbox aswell, used to feed up on farm with a Keenan 170 had a mx140 which was meant to boost to 170 but when full if you started feeding and moving uphill at the same time you could very easily stall but a 6630 managed fine, but it still took some lugging about, 30 cube machine will be a monster!!

Newhollands can be painfull at times especially when doing field work on hills

Ours would boost downhill when plowing but not uphill.. and one problem they all have is when spreading muck you knock the spool off at the headland to turn the boost light goes off then when you pull it back in the tractor dies down and there’s a delay before the silly boost light comes back on and if your faceing uphill it’s pathetic.... this is my experience of 2 T6s

If you want a 150 + hp tractor do not buy an up-rated smaller one, manufactures do not make a high hp tractor then de-rate it and sell cheaper if you do some checking you will find things like hyd linkage, front axles and even wheels and tyres are different, no different than a car Fords can get over 100hp from the 1l ecoboost engine but i would love to see what one is like after 10yrs and 100k miles after being used for everyday running about i still prefer a slower revving 6 pot.

Stop messing about and just buy an 828 man!

Not with all the engine & transmission troubles they come with. Fine for a contract hire machine but not for one you're going to own beyond the warranty expiry.

The reason the boost is only available in certain conditions is, as @Steevo described, due to how the components can handle torque. At higher speeds and with different demands the load is spread over different components, not channelled through one.
