Dosage & Administration

Cattle: Ultrapen LA may be administered by either the subcutaneous or intramuscular route of administration to non-lactating cattle and by the intramuscular route only to lactating cattle.
Pigs: Ultrapen LA may be administered by the intramuscular route of administration only.
The recommended dose rate is 20mg procaine penicillin per kg bodyweight, equivalent to 1ml per 15kg bodyweight. If signs persist at 72 hours repeat the dose.
Withdrawal Period

Animals must not be slaughtered for human consumption during treatment.
Subcutaneous Administration: Cattle may be slaughtered for human consumption only after 13 days from the last treatment.
Intramuscular Administration: Cattle may be slaughtered for human consumption only after 23 days from the last treatment.
Pigs may be slaughtered for human consumption only after 10 days from the last treatment. Milk for human consumption must not be taken during treatment. Milk for human consumption may only be taken from treated cows after 132 hours from the last administration.

As above - Ultrapen LA is not a sheep drug. There are penicillin products with a sheep licence.

If using a product off licence (and you'd struggle to justify that, but that is not currently under discussion) then a minimum withhold of 28days for meat and 7 days for milk/eggs.

Given that the cow with hold is less then 28 days would seem reasonable. You really need to speak to the specific vet who authorised the off licence use.........

(did the vet not label the bottle?)

Sounds quite elaborate but plausible thanks for the info

But what I mean is after they are.slaughtered.how would they find out if they have been treated with anything they can't test for every drug there is

I thought that if a drug was not licenced for a particular species then the withdrawal was to be taken as double for the longest withdrawal stated on the data sheet.
No.

A bit off the original post but on the topic of ultrapen la does it make bulls go infertile for a wee while after they have been dosed with it? I remember being told certain drugs do but couldn't remember if ultrapen was one? Tia.
