I'm wanting to upgrade from iMovie that I'm currently using as it has its limitations.

The question is, what are folks using? I'm currently between Sony Vegas Pro and Adobe Premiere Pro (think this is the correct one?)

Anyone used either of these or anything else to a similar standard? (don't even mention Windows Movie Maker as a Window is where that should be thrown out of!)

Final Cut Pro has a pretty steep learning curve but it has a big following. FCP X is the latest but many reckon FCP 7 was the best version. What with FCP having it's quirks and having to use a Mac which is also buggy, it can be refined torture until you get used to them! I hate my Mac but I'm learning to live with fcp. Would it be Final Cut Studio that is the cut down version? I think you can get a 30 day trial of most of these programs.

Yes, you could be right, although FCP Studio appears to be no longer available.

Thanks everyone, think I'm going to try the 30 day trial on Adobe Premiere Pro and see how I get on with it (y)

Sounds like FCP is a bit of a marmite program from what I have heard from a few people!

@Dave Franciosy do you use After Effects as part of the Premiere Pro package?

Thanks, I'll have a go with them and see how my bank account is feeling once the trial is over!

If it is just for video editing, I have a G5 with FCP 4, installation disks, and all the manuals sitting here gathering dust that I don't quite know what to do with. It was replaced with a 2nd hand Mac Pro with more software than I will ever use including FCP 7 and X. PM me if interested.

I was previously on Adobe Premiere Pro CS4. Found it a bit cluttered and main problem for me was that it was sooooo heavy to run on my PC (which had good specs!). Also had trouble uploading videos to YT. Bought a new camera last year and was given a free copy of Adobe Premiere Elements CS6. Works super smooth (same PC) and uploading is a doddle. Have yet to find a single feature that I am missing which is on the Pro version! Loads cheaper to buy.
