In just over a week locally there have been 2 maize trailers tipped over on roundabouts, the main reason as far as I can see is speed and most likely inexperience.
There's trailers running around back roads at speeds that are unsuitable and safe as it's plain to see by the amount of rubber left on the Tarmac.
Is it going to need a fatality before people take a step back and look what's going on.

The operators and drivers of these outfits, and everyone, has to think about what their priority really is. The first and foremost priority is to put safety first.

That means making someone responsible on every team for banging the safety message daily. Making sure everyone is responsible and capable of operating safely. Making sure that any muppets are identified and eliminated from the team, because they are a liability to themselves, the team and the public. Making sure that access and signs are adequate. Making sure that time pressure never compromises safety.

Give every driver a daily checklist and a list of behaviour and priorities expected to be upheld for the common good.

Of course it has to be realised that the boss is sometimes the main problem and in that case the drivers will be held jointly responsible, possibly wholly responsible for any accident caused, even despite the pressure put upon them.

Work Safe! Work Steady. Work efficiently and happily.

These young lads who are under pressure from their boss to get the job done quickly and even more from their ego to push the limits even more are a recipe for disaster.
Someone reading this will be one of these bosses who is RESPONSIBLE for a team operation. Please think safety rather than productivity and do us all a favour!

These are not mutually exclusive. Working steadily and safely and being well organised is most productive.
It is brainless unorganised hurried shambles that is unproductive, and I've seen plenty of all sorts.

When you see a trailer going flat out along the headland only to park up with the other 2or 3 to wait for a load is mainly inexperience, ego coupled with the quantity of flashing lights.
They're mainly young lads who don't know better and what a thankless task it is trying to educate them about safety and being a good operator with some mechanical empathy, I've tried and found it completely demoralising.

If they can't work responsibly, they are a massive liability and should not be allowed to continue unless they demonstrate a responsible attitude and ability.

People's lives depend on this. Do not employ muppets! They only bring cost and grief to all.

I agree, I got fed up with dealing with muppets all day everyday and looked for a change, but these large contractors/farms rely on the inexperienced zero hours minimum wage operators that see the opportunity to drive a new tractor with an 18 ton trailer to keep the whole job viable/sustainable

If the job isn't viable with good operators it isn't viable with muppets either. See original post. Someone could easily be maimed or killed by unviable muppetry and using 'viability' as an excuse for negligence will not be seen as a valid excuse by anyone either before or after any event. It will be seen for what it is, negligence and greed.

I like the I'm alright jack attitude of the bosses as they sit in the forager while expecting young lads to drive long distances at highly illegal speeds and weights, shame there's not an operators licencing system, they might act a bit more responsibly then. The plant operators must know what's going on and also have to take their share of the responsibility.

in the farming world with tighting all round some people think they save a few pounds if they get a worker that is not going to be asking as much as others , but what they don't see is these workers brake to much stuff,
i know of a contractor that is finding it hard now but some of the stuff he has to fix for next year is down to his driver
