I wonder what Wanton Dwarf is doing that makes him so paranoid about being tracked?
How would one deal with CCTV and number plate recognition, or just bumping into people you know?
Yeah I know I come across as a bit paranoid.
Came across this article that explains a little more why tracking isn't a good thing for browsers.
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2015/05/25/tracking_isnt_just_invasive_its_too_heavy/
TLDR version: Tracking Adverts load large amounts of data including Java code which increase your page load time, increase your data usage and slows your machine down.
Unfortunately I've read various papers on web security, that combined with the police advising me recently that all mobile phones are unsecure - well I try to be careful...
BTW here is an extract of Microsoft's License Agreement on the usage of Java:
"The OS Components may contain support for programs written in Java. Java technology is not fault tolerant and is not designed, manufactured, or intended for use or resale as on-line control equipment in hazardous environments requiring fail-safe performance, such as in the operation of nuclear facilities, aircraft navigation or communication systems, air traffic control, direct life support machines, or weapons systems, in which the failure of Java technology could lead directly to death, personal injury, or severe physical or environmental damage. Sun Microsystems, Inc. has contractually obligated Microsoft to make this disclaimer."
Oracle (New owner of Java after Sun went bust) only now mention Nuclear facilities so maybe things have improved....
You seem to be confusing java and javascript I don't know of any adverts that load Java
Of course Javas does have to be running in the browser to compile the JavaScript... but the article is talking in part about Java Script Libraries.
http://www.w3schools.com/js/js_libraries.asp
For example:
jQuery
jQuery is the most popular JavaScript framework on the Internet today.
It uses CSS selectors to access and manipulate HTML elements (DOM Objects) on a web page.
jQuery also provides a companion UI (user interface) framework and numerous other plug-ins.
Many of the largest companies on the Web use jQuery:
You will find an excellent jQuery Tutorial here at W3Schools.
- Microsoft
- IBM
- Netflix
The library's are used for scrolling, image morphing, common tasks performed the same way between different browsers.
Each library has it's own release level - so you could end up down loading many copies of JQuery for example V1, V1.1, V1.2 etc depending on the toolset used by the developer.
Google actually hosts many of these libraries in it's own servers to improve download speeds.
Now you are just coming across as a fool.. sorry I have been biting my lip but this sentence just shows you have absolutely no clue what you are talking about:
"Of course Javas does have to be running in the browser to compile the JavaScript... but the article is talking in part about Java Script Libraries."
JavaScript has about as much similarity to Java as Carpet does to Car.
The sad thing about both you @Sleepy and @alan01252 is you both have taken an opportunity to have a go at me personally for no good reason other than your own jaded opinions - I've shown that some of your views are extreme and quite frankly WRONG.
I made an assumption about how JavaScript is run - whoopee do.
However, I've shown that you don't know what you are on about on some major observations you've made when you've tried to justify your wild statements
What you think you know you obviously don't.
Call me a fool all you want Mr Java can do anything.
Not having a go at you personally at all, don't play the victim card.
You have made some ridiculous statements and then not been able to back them up at all. You profess to be a programmer yet you don't know the difference between java and javascript.
Alan replied in depth to your first post point by point highlighting all the flaws in your arguments. You just came back with more nonsense statements.
Please remember this folks.
They can spy on me all they want, if they like junk emails go ahead. As for tracking what sites i visit i couldnt give a toss. Got nothing to hide. Totally agree with you on Windows 8, but what other options are any good , none in my opinion. Also you seem like you have something to hidePersonally I don't like Google because they are so far up their own backside and I don't trust them either, I also don't like my PC being snooped on which I know Google certainly does on email - so I don't use Chrome.
I avoid using Google whenever I can and go direct to sites using links - this "used" to be the most secure way of accessing sites and avoids being tracked.
I try to always close the browser before going to a new site - never use the same window to go between sites.
I also don't like Java - which comes down to some bad experiences I had while programming it some years ago (didn't work).
So I don't use Chrome - my Bro likes Firefox but he's just weird
Because I program Microsoft I use IE 11 - it's not 100% as per the "Standards Committee" but it's most likely better optimised for any graphics if that is your thing.
I'm not a Microsoft fanboy - although I do like them because MOST of their software does at least work - however I really, really, really don't like Windows 8, but that is more because of the marketing side of it, I think "Live Tiles" are one step away from having advertising on your desktop.

because you said it yourself "Yeah I know I come across as a bit paranoid". How would one know what is tracked and what isnt? This is the age of surveillance."Tracking" in the sense I'm talking about is relates to "Tracking Protection" which basically means limiting 3rd party adverts and limiting 3rd party usage of your internet connection & computer.
It's not about "Hiding" - if I wanted to "Hide" then I wouldn't use a standard browser nor a standard internet connection - Tracking Protection is about stopping unauthorised people nosing into my private emails and buying habits such as what illness I might have.
Please explain what you mean by me having something to hide ?
If Windows 10 turns out to be rubbish then I'm gonna check out Apple & Unix - but as my bro thinks Windows 10 will be a move by Microsoft to dominate all platforms not just PCs & Phones.

There is no requirement to lock it really.Ok
I started this thread as a simple question of which internet browser do people recommend
Lets just leave it at that
I have decided to stick with Chrome after trying all the various others
Now can the Mods stop this thread PLEASE @JP1
