I thought it my be interesting to share my weight loss and fitness journey over the last 9 months.
I made the decision last June that it was time to shed a few pounds, my pants where getting tight and going into harvest when I spend most of my days sat on my ass in a combine snacking this wasn’t going to improve without intervention 🤦🏻‍♂️.
Anyway I found out the local boxing club which is just down the road does an adult fitness class 4 nights a week. So off I went to give the 1 hour boxing themed class a go. Well to say it was tough going was an understatement! I almost passed out and nearly vomited half way through the session 😂.
However I went back the following week for another go and have stuck at it. I’m not doing two nights a week and Saturday mornings plus a personal training season so at least 4 hours a week plus some jogging and skipping in between as well.
So since June I have lost two and half stone and feel great and I’d recommend it to anyone wanting to get in shape. Boxing training really is a full body workout.

However I’ve now decided to go to the next stage and got my first proper sparing session tomorrow 😱 and if all goes well I’m hoping to build up to doing a charity white collar fight later this year. So fingers crossed I stay on my feet.

I only started going to lose some weight but really got the bug and can’t get there enough now.
I’m no where near the oldest at the fitness class though and there’s a couple of very nice ladies who have nearly 10 years on me and go sparing once a week so definitely never too late to start.

Well I survived 😁, and what a difference it is when the punches are coming back at you 😖. Have to say it was a massive rush though and loved it even taking a few hits 😵💫.
The guy I was sparing with use to be a pro boxer (he went easy on me) so we where working on defence technique etc rather than a brawl but he said I did really well for my first time 👍🏼. Got another session booked in for next Wednesday so can’t wait for that.

One thing I will say though is it feels really strange actually trying to hit someone in the face. I kept finding myself not following through with the punches and holding back because it goes against the grain and my brain kept telling me not to hurt the other guy. It’s something I’ll have to work on but all good 😊

I relate to this, if I got them I would apologise! I’m not cut out to be a fighter but it’s great training and usually with great people

If you’re sparring against someone that you can’t quite get a jab or cross to connect to, discretely throw it with an open fist. The look of surprise when you tap them on the nose is priceless 😉

Do you film your session so you can see how to improve?
No, the guy who runs the club is quite strict about filming. Too many people post there videos to YouTube then other clubs watch and pick up how fighters train move and there technique etc.
However he is very good at giving feedback and working on a fighters week spots and pushing them on. To give you an Idea it’s a fairly new club (opened in November 2020) but out of over 35 club fights his lads have only had two losses.

Just thought I’d update this thread with a couple of pictures, sparing pretty much everything Saturday morning now. I’m fighting out of the red corner 🥊.

This is my regular sparing buddy

Spared with this lad for the first time this morning, he wants to start amateur boxing so needed someone in the similar weight/hight to have try with. Was a really good session, enjoy it.
