I know they are otter tracks, but.....?

Sorting out some old photos today and came across this one. Pretty sure they are otter tracks as they lead across the corner of a field from one ditch to another. But what is curious are the drag marks running parallel to the foot prints. It almost looks as if the otter was dragging something but is dragging it off to one side rather than directly behind it. Any ideas?

Yes, dragging something, but why so lop sided and what? The ditches are just too wide to step across, but you could hop across then no bother. Definitely too small for salmon and would they be running in December - January?
