McConnell Discaerator replacement

I've been using a McConnell discaerator since 2010 on our heavy clayey loam soils and have been very pleased with it. The front legs lift the soil allowing the discs to do a great job. Over the last few years we have been running the front legs shallower as the soil tilth has improved. We drill with a combination drill. I am looking to change the discaerator and am wondering to just buy another one or should i look at something else? Thanks in advance.

If i thought i could get away without any front legs, there are plenty of options but i'm concerned in dry hard stubbles i won't get enough depth of tilth.

I have thought about that but I don't know if i'm brave enough to make the move to strip till. I know you're going to say "have a demo".

No.. was just a thought, each to their own

We had a demo last autumn of a Horsch Joker with a TG bar. Was ok but a bit light in places.

Use a nieghbours machine weaving subdisc, had mcconnel before, when asked why they change it, as imo the mcconnel was better tool leaving leveller finsh, they total agreed, was a mistake on there part.

He-va combi disc.

My neighbours have swapped a sumo trio in for a He-va combi disc mainly i believe as you have the option of pulling the legs of work and can just disc if required. Another chap has bought a Great Plains/Simba 4.6m trailed express as heavy enough. I want to go away from big heavy front legs but not too far!

Plowman Omnitill. Like a Sumo but much better leg. Lots of tungsten carbide so you'll spend less time changing metal and less disturbance from depth as the shank is much narrower that the shakaerator shin. We have gone from a shakaerator to a trio with NG (a fitted to the Plowmans) and we can more done and better tilth.

Do you have no black grass where you are?
We ran a trio in leics for a few years which I thought was a great tool on our heavy ground but for sure, the black grass got much worse . It makes sense of course, the way these machines work they mix the seed throughout the whole soil profile, so there is always some not controlled by the chosen mode of attack.

Ok, someone's godda say it, why not cut out all that cultivation cr*p and go no till.
There I feel better for that, I'll go and crawl back under my no till stone.
