That is a much prettier report than anything out of NE,DEFRA or Gov.UK. planet zoog!!
SPAM..SPAM... SPAMAll looks wonderful on page 12, especially the Polly Tunnels and wind turbine.
The reality is far and away from the idyllic coloured arrows, and more on the how the hell do we feed 70 million people and growing AND work sustainably with the environment and bioculture that sustains us.
Intensive agriculture, increased yields, genetic modification and better land usage, strongly linked and managed by the best and most cost-effective technology around, is this the way forward ?
So, how do we intensively farm in the future, and ensure animal welfare, ground water, energy efficiency and the land that sustains us etc is both protected and sustainable without huge inputs?
All to produce low cost food where some (not all) enters the supermarket, some gets sold, and some thrown in the skip.
Bought by the housewife, some gets used, some gets chucked on the bin.
Maybe start by adding up the sums, and after picking ourselves up off the floor, realise the problems start at the end, not the beginning.
