The best farmers are not farming as we know it

I seem to remember someone talking about getting a job in the town ...
Jobs are great, no rule anywhere that says the land has to pay for all our wants and needs

I've got no cat in this fight, as I no longer own a house or any land, just some cows, furnishings, tools and toys

However I do like as many income streams as possible, rental properties were great until that dice got too loaded in favour of tenants.
Shares. Stocks and bonds. Whatever grows

Is that why Australian sheep are virtually worthless? An inferior product imo that few want to pay
up for.

wouldn’t know ?

fat lambs here are worth big money & Australian fine wool is considered the best in the world by the Italian fashion industry, so I’m not sure where you get your information ? 🤷‍♂️

tbh, when I lived in the UK, I always preferred NZ lamb to UK 🤣

maybe in the UK ? 🤔

SERIOUS money to be made from agriculture elsewhere in the world, why do you think there are massive private / family & corporate farms out there ?

do UK “hobby” ( your words, NOT mine ) farmers actually “feed the world” ?

considering the UK itself is dependent on imports for a large proportion of its consumption ?

sorry, but I think “feeding the world” is mostly done by North America, South America, Eastern Europe, Australasia ( including NZ ), China & India . . . Even with the various challenges of extreme weather, climates, logistics or politics . . .

again, sorry - but you lot aren’t “feeding the world”, so don’t kid yourselves that you are

the countries that actually ARE feeding the world, agriculture is BIG business

that is the difference

sorry 😞

Feeding the world? Over the years I’ve sent a lot of lambs for export I would say the vast majority of what I’ve sold went for export. They didn’t feed anybody here.

All out bulls go to Italy. I quite like the idea of them being prepared in posh Milan restaurant‘s
I would say the agricultural production in this country at this present time could be doubled if things were shining a bit more in all sorts of ways in a years time I would say tripled because a lot are cutting back

well…
i would prefer if you didn‘t tell posters to « jog along ». For one thing it’s rude and secondly, some of us might find the posts interesting.
Merci beaucoup
Fair enough

In my defense the poster I directed that comment at was being rather derogatory about British agriculture, but perhaps I ought to let that by and welcome the diversity of opinion so as not to upset anyone

Gracias

Feeding the world as in the people of the world is done by anyone growing/producing food, could be someone with a veg patch or window box for that matter.
Exactly correct. There are some ego’s on here that seem to think their country is soo much better than little old England. We all play our part from Bangladesh to Bolivia. And in every one of our country’s we should be proud of the food we produce and should not be ashamed to want a good price.

Nothing much is sweeter than that 🙂 still get a kick out of growing veg and meat for my people.

One thing I don't worry about anymore are potatoes, Dad used to have half the garden in spuds but it seems like such a waste of space when you could grow more "expensive" bits and pieces instead.
As it turns out most of the crew would rather not have spuds and eat more meat which is fine by me, the more they eat the more meat I get to cut up

No worries our premium product is appreciated by the biggest spenders
we're not trying to compete with cheap lager and bucket chicken.
