Lit at small fire. The honey just chars to soot. Managed to get my head past the hearth and it’s fairly clean. Wisps of smoke leaking out into the attic though. So it’s a definite cap off, brick up with air brick job until such time as somebody does a proper renovation though I doubt they’ll ever resurrect open hearth fires nice as they are. Anyway it’s had a good smoking so hopefully that will keep the bugs out.

Please remember Rod Hull.
No worries. I remember Rod. I had use of an access platform fully Lolered. I’ve a terrible head for heights and took me three goes to get to full height. Feels like you are on the end of a thirty foot long brush shaft
I’m struggling to find a more permanent cap thsts insect proof. I think my only option is to tie wrap mesh over the pot before fitting a cap. The top edge of one of the pots is slightly wavy, not flat and I need a gap for ventilation anyway.

Openreach - they should be coming to raise wires in a field, no way of contacting contractors to tell them about livestock in the field, health and safety issues and the like. Going through the chatbot - the only option - provides an email address. When sending a message to the email address, I get a reply saying that it is an internal address and cannot help.

Padlock the gate and leave your contact number.
Trailcam in the tree opposite and then charge them with breaking and entering.
Can you tell we have a history?

Went and lit the fire tonight, I have one of those Villager wood burners with a gas burner as we're on mains. Within half hour the carbon monoxide gadget was screaming it's head off, gas off and windows open which somewhat defeated the point of getting some heat in the house.
The other half was giving me grief going on about the smell of gas and for the sake of peace and sanity I opened the fire up and checked inside, all seemed ok, it's just a box with a gas burner at the end of the day.
Fired it up again and the alarm started again by which time herself had stomped off to bed.......result on the peace part.
Stripped the fire down, lit a cigarette and smoke went up the chimney, bit basic but best thing I could think of plus it helped my sanity. Got the hoover out and cleaned everything off and underneath there was a punctured tennis ball which prompted a guilty looking terrier puppy to make an appearance to collect it.
That ball had been sitting under the burner getting hot and shoving out all kinds of nasties setting off the co monitor.
I've had a quiet warm rest of the evening watching what I want on the telly, coffee when I want without having to make tea at the same time, all in all not too bad as I did find the cause but the puppy is banned from tennis balls in the house.

Or are you going to chuck it back under when you want some peace again 😂
