Quick question to you dairy boys.

Is it possible to out winter british Freisian/Holstein x heifers on kale all winter.
Would they thrive?
Could they do it if jan/feb born in their first winter?
Is kale best?

Have dry land.
Dosent get properly cold here till December in a normal year with the odd week of frost, rarely snow but have alot of rain usually.

Yes I do it, give them some hay or straw, ours survive! Even in the last two horrendous winters, doing it again this year

they wont grow much but will be fine, dependant on how much holstine blood of course,

Cows are grazing a very clover heavy ley by day that is being pre-mown partly to reduce bloat risk and partly because its a bit past its best and the little bit of grass that is there has started to head

Washing down this morning I noticed that the collecting yard was just completely full of clove seed so I've changed my grazing plans around so they'll be going on a field with zero clover for the next few days in the hope that the girls will plant a bit where its needed most.
