PDing is the only way I have yet to be kicked around cattle, an arm up the arse is about the best restraint method out I reckon! No need for the 'lecky bill

I appreciate this is an old thread, but it is an important issue I feel I must address. It is illegal to use these items in the United Kingdom.

The Welfare of Farmed Animals (England) Regulations 2007 Schedule 1 & The Welfare of Farmed Animals (Northern Ireland) Regulations 2012:

Electrical immobilisation

30. An electrical current must not be applied to an animal for the purpose of immobilisation.

http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2007/2078/schedule/1/made & http://www.legislation.gov.uk/nisr/2012/156/schedule/1/made

Any person caught using such equipment is liable to prosecution.

I hope no one on here is using one, and if they are I suggest they decease and dispose of the evidence.

Are you a copper or just a do gooder?

The problem is it is illegal. It's illegal because it is believed to be cruel. Electero-ejaculation has to be carried out by a veterinary surgeon to safeguard the animals welfare - even then only short bursts are used.

The implication is this device is used routinely. Well handled cattle don't go mad in crushes.

(I spend 95% of my time dealing with cattle on different farms)

Nonsense. There's always one, and for that one using this as a last resort has to be better than an injury to either man or beast. Great shame it can't be used any more. Agree that in the wrong hands it could be misused, but then so can most things. Someone shouting could stress an animal, but no one gets prosecuted for that.

Electro ejaculation is the cruelset thing I have seen that's legal, I refuse to use it on my bulls.

You must have very civilised and sheltered lives over your way @Hilly if thats the cruelest thing youve ever seen :)

It might be cruel if the vet is crap at it. Have had it done on a few young bulls here if the buyer wants them fertility tested, never seemed to bother them much at all. One went out of the crush and went straight over to try to jump another bull.

There aren't many other ways to get a young bull to give you a sample! Unless you do a good impression of a heifer o_O

The vet was probably crap at it then.

double standards here I think, like other things that are vet only
It seems like using these just got lumped in with the clip on ones that were thought to have problems and banned
I have watched them used on youtube and the cattle seem ok, so I can't see a problem, lengths of blue water pipe on the other hand
That is not to say I would use one without finding out a lot more about it
What about electric cattle prods I spose they are just as bad yet hitting the animal is ok
