Challengers going back

60 machines presumably affected UK wide...how many hats and rabbits does Challenger have? The repercussions must be serious. Reminds me of the thread yesterday about certain Irish trailers being delayed...this debacle takes it to a whole new level and scale.

Rabbits breed quickly.
I think 60 for the UK in a year is a bit optimistic, let alone in a single build order. I imagine that about a dozen for a whole year would be nearer the mark, but I have no basis for any number at all, more or less than 60.

yeah reckon they'll be on the hunt far and wide for a few more as yet. Mine is coming from France.
Imagine the cost of shipping various machines hither and thither. Not just those new ones, some of which might be diverted directly for rectification before reaching these shores, but also those ones needed to keep people going and the potential cost of a season's extra wear and depreciation and repairs on existing dozers run by customers which AGCO will need to swallow somehow.

Dunno how many they normally sell in a year? Doubtless there's someone out there reading this that knows.

I've also got doubts its necessarily a "wrong emissions tier" oops, der jeez how did we click/tick the wrong box problem. As Grumpybiker says, it could be a a convenient excuse to blame "emissions" cover a more embarrassing manufacturing problem...(anyhow how do customs dudes know the correct emissions tier of an engine in industrial plant anyway, are they they THAT clued up...or does it say "Tier 3 non EU/EPA compliant" on the paperwork???, in which case AGCO  x 1,000,000).

The whole thing is bizarre!

That would mean that the whole of Europe was involved. In which case I could well imagine the figure 60 to be nearer the mark for a batch.

If the emissions tier is not good enough to get into the UK then its no good for sale anywhere else across the EU, or North America.

Cowabunga, I can think of a dealer that will very near sell a dozen new ones a year easily!! ;)

TNS are the biggest I know of. Very few dealers average a single new one per year I'm guessing.

So you reckon a single batch of 60 destined for the UK, all built but not delivered off the ship, have been fitted with the 'wrong' engine?

The delivery of our new Challenger is affected. It seems extraordinary that Agco have let this happen if the emmissions tale is the truth, actually even more so than if it is some other production problem, since it is a matter of complying with a known standard. I believe our dealer has sold more than a dozen "Es"over Essex and Kent and I feel they have been put in a difficult position through no fault of there own, although I think Agco have been working hard to help dealers out. Personally I have to say my faith in Agco is more than a little shaken by this affair. Lets hope they get it sorted more swiftly than currently scheduled.

Who's fault is it? Somebody, a specific person, must have responsibility for this debacle. Should he/she/them/it be thrown to the lions? Or should we realise that it is all about people and that humans are all fallible?

Seems impossible to me that someone could make such a monumental cock up.what are the 20 tractors worth,4/5 million.probably make the second hand models worth more

Wouldn't it be more logical to ship new engines over here, and ship the old ones back? Or is it a case there is nowhere to store them without "landing" and this cannot be done if emissions regs are wrong?

As someone who works for a big OEM, yes this stuff really does happen! and yes it is usually a cock up of monumental order, or the actions of a single feck-wit who does not know the difference....... you have to also consider that emissions regs are not as simple as it may seem by just looking at a map, many companies are still using flex credits, pre bought engine stocks etc and these can add a whole new layer of confusion. I have seem the same issue with machines getting turned away at ports exactly the same as this AGCO issue, and know about many manufacturers who have had similar issues!

The figure that I have been reliably given today is 16 and that it will be September at the earliest. I was also told that emissions are not the only issue, lighting is also an issue too.
