Well it has taken a little longer than expected but we are pleased to announce the TFF mobile apps :)

You can find them on the Apple and Android app stores by searching for 'Farming Forum' or 'TFF'.

If you like the app we would appreciate it if you could leave a review on the app store (y)

Apologies to those of you who have already found the app and are about to get a mailshot...

Any problems please let us know

you can add a shortcut to TFF so it’s one click to open the site on browser

screen grab from iphone below (tap the menu at bottom of browser to open that) then “add to home screen” - i’m sure someone with android device will explain how on one

Just to add you can do the same on Android phones too, its on the 3 bars on bottom right of screen on mine, get to thefarmingforum as you normally would then "add page to" and select home screen.
I was an App user but the browser is as good possibly better once you have that shortcut created.

what does the app do that you can’t do better in the browser of a mobile phone ?
I’m trying hard to adjust to viewing in browser instead of the app but what’s killing it for me is if I’m in middle of reading a tread or writing one and I happen to put phone down or do something else then come back to it the page is gone and the forum reopens from the starting pages again. The app was great from that point. Is this the same for everyone or am I doing something wrong?

something is wrong there

in browser view I can start writing a post on one device and finish it on another, it should remember exactly where you left off. In that respect it’s far better than the app

I can’t think why yours isn’t working like it should though, must be a cache / history setting on your device

what device and browser are using? Someone might be able to help

If you put phone down mid post or if reading something in say one of the threads, and when you pick it back up and hit the TFF link on home page you will end back at the home page or where the link starts off, not at your half written post or what you were reading.
You need to hit internet in that case and it should go back to were you where before putting phone down.
Certainly mine works like that. Clive is right I can do a post on my phone then go to PC and finish it, no bother.

it’s true - very few use it and it does cost us time, software subscription, apple and google store costs and 3rd party maintenance costs

if more used it the cost and time involved maybe worthwhile

or as i’ve already suggested we could build a app that you pay for ?

What would the app cost to build roughly and price it would cost to download? Would it be a 1 off or yearly sub? Or do as the Mormon church do and make each person pledge 10% of their income to the forum. ?? worth pricing up roughly perhaps. Checks and balances have to marry up. Not always easy.

I thought you made a fortune with adverts . You can put adverts on a new app

“fortune” is rather optimistic. TFF cost over 200k per year to keep live now (staff, hosting, tech maintenance/ development and other costs). takes a fair few ads just to cover that !

I personally have put more money into TFF so far than i’ve had out of it. i’m not inclined to keep doing so unless there is a decent return on my cash

i can do some scoping but i would guess somewhere here between 5-10k would cover building it properly

cost per user depends on how many would want it - as i say very few were using the tapatalk app

the question of viability is more how much would a user be prepared to pay ? my guess is not much when they can use browser view for free and i don’t think the app would offer anything the browser can’t really

we will have a look into it in the new year - maybe as a £1.99 app enough would download it - or we could make it part of the “premium” membership package that some already subscribe to

the app is no longer in apple or google store so next time you change phones you will loose it. it’s unsupported on newer OS so could stop working at anytime
