i cant blame all this on the tractor, as much as it annoyed me when it broke

putting all that power through the gearbox in its lowest gear, with the front wheels off the floor wasnt ever going to do it much good really

(expensive) lesson learned

Most tractors diffs will stand the sort of treatment you describe for a lifetime, however the DB range was soft, working hard always buggered something, have you ever seen a DB based tractor puller, I haven't, bull gears on a Fordson Major was a weak part but only when putting 500 hp through them or working in tandem in a Doe

That heavy land needs a crawler to subsoil it surely john?
Get a nice 7810 Deere or a 6610 will last for years even one with 6-7k hours on them.
That would be the best way to go or go down the mcormick route if you fancy one?

John none of my business I know but it seems to me that the solution would be to swap in one of your smaller tractors for a 1594 or slightly bigger size equivalent. Say something like a 5130-40 this would give you 2 prime movers capable of all your work and a plan B in case of disaster.

hate to pee on your matches o knowlegable one....

but then i love proving people wrong, i specialise in it in fact

this bloke has a fleet of them, 1690, 1410 and 1210

maybe in future you should investigate the subject better before wading in with a pointless comment like that.

that "heavy land" apparently buggered the back end of a D7 last time it was subsoiled at any depth

grandfather "forgot" to tell me that until after i had limped the 15 back home though

dont fancy a mcormick, heard to many horror stories about the back ends

7810 would be overkill here, 6610/6810 or even maybe a 66/6800 would be about right

Single leg subsoiler next time then. Dad hired one a few years ago to do a field when the clay was rock hard. In the space of 12 acres the 2 wings wore off completely and the leg was half as thick by the end. It absolutely mauled our old 4240 and that was the last time we ever did any subsoiling. People say sand is abrasive and clay polishes but I'm not too sure.

just a normal 1690 turbo "tweaked" to about 400hp....

difference is thats a synchro box

judging by the blokes trophy cabinet, he must have got something right with it....

would that be too much for a hydra shift?
there is a 800hp massey tractot puller still driving through a multi power box, but its only 800hp from a 4cyl
