i have just upgraded my personal phone. only ever got on with samsungs but the prices nowadays are high imo and the phones are to big for my liking. i have gone for a oppo x5 pro. basically the same phones and its great. simple and battery lasts, work phone just been changed to a tcl306, again android and works just like a samsung. camera is better than the wifes iphone and battery lasts me two days with regular use still.

Stick with a Motorola, you know it makes sense!

Invest 5-6 quid on a tough case, and a tempered glass screen protector. Sorted.

Just got a refurbished Samsung s10 from appliances direct, can't tell it wasn't new.Cost £169 but luckily had a £100 voucher from them as they delivered a new cooker a couple of weeks late last year and I complained:):), so in 4eality only£69 plus p&p.fact of the matter is it is a good phone and after 1 day in your pocket no difference to brand new.i have even uploaded Google pay which I must say is great as got fed up of cancelling my bank card as always loosing it.

I'd always had Samsung Galaxies from ages back , but , I have to say that , really against my better judgement, this last replacement was a Moto G 10 , on the recommendation of a forum member here . It has done all that I needed from a phone , (perhaps the actual phone part isn't quite as good as my Samsungs ) but perhaps I'm a bit finicky . The battery is good and quickly recharges , the camera seems perfectly adequate , but I'm not a perfectionist in that respect . It's been very reliable never being "Off" and never failing to start . All in all , I have no complaints about Moto , and at not a lot over £100.00 it compares very well against the now very expensive Samsungs . It came with a "Soft " case and two gorilla glass screen protectors , only one of which I've used so far , and the one in use hasn't got a mark on it , and this despite being used (misused ?) and dropped quite often by my Great G. Daughter to watch Peppa pig vids . I have it on the O2 network through GiffGaff on £6.00 p/m tariff and no complaints about that either . So, will I buy another when this one cocks ? Probably , but still at the back of my mind ,I'm a bit of a stick-in-the-mud , and I still hanker after my original love !

I have been getting on really well with ulefone phones, available via amazon.
They are rugged phones.
I have the ' power armor 13 ', which I really like, rugged, battery lasts 10 days between charges, but because the battery is big, it is BIG and heavy. So definitely think twice before having this.
But my kids have the ' power armor 14 pro ' which is still fairly big, but battery does about 5/7 days and is another tough phone. This I'd say is on the big side but more manageable.

Definitely worth a look if you want big battery, drop proof, IP68 waterproof, those 2 have wireless charging also.
They even have clip on clip off covers that are tough addons.
Speed wise, not an issue.

Have tried other rugged phones, like doogee and oukitel, the ulefones seem to be better put together.

I recently got a new phone after having left mine on the tractor front tyre and then driving over it. Because I don't want to be wearing my hearing aids at work and because any farm phone needs to be tough I googled the loudest phones and the Nokia XR20 came up, it ticks all the boxes for me. It is bigger than my old phone but still ok in the pocket. Also increasing the font size also means I don't need to carry my glasses around which means they don't get broken. Getting older just means you have to make adjustments.

Working in the industry with the worst record for health and safety in the country and deliberately doing so with compromised hearing and eyesight - what could possibly go wrong?

Just been told by Vodafone I have to upgrade my phone because it uses 3G for calls and texts and they will be 4G and 5G only from next year. If I get a phone from them, my monthly bill will be double what it is now

Are you on contract or PAYG. I am with Vodafone on PAYG. Bought my phone from Argos for £70 and just have a £10 big value bundle each month with Vodafone. Phone has 4G on it.

Well don't then.
You can get a sim free (unlocked) phone for less than £20 one off payment.
I expect if you asked around you might get one for free off friends and family.

I'm on a sim-only contract with them, £8 a month. So can use any phone I like. No intention of taking up their offer, in fact I still have an old non-smart phone in a desk drawer which is getting ever more tempting.
