what you after bad shot wyping some blackgrass ,, ;) google ctm weed beet topper get one on front of tractor on rowcrops take top of wheat off and all black grass heads saw one working near boston , think it was Carrington estate
Had the idea for a few years now, and seeing the mess unfolding round me I think I'd rather spend my money before it gets out of control. Be a lot of contracting too by the look of things.

My experience of topping blackgrass is it sends out another lot of tillers within a week or so, that are only just off the ground

Just got a C-Dax one and starting to experiment with it.
You do need a wetting agent to help the chemical to stick. So far we have managed to get rates for different chemicals on the basis of the area that can be covered per litre.

We are trying to get rid of ever increasing rushes as well as perennial nettles and later on creeping thistles. Have been told Thistlex is very effective through a wiper.

Badshot you are welcome to hire it if you want to try it.

There is a guy called John Maddocks who sadly resides in another world, who knows all about them. Lives in Tasmania for his sins but has been known to visit England, well worth speaking to, probably nobody knows more about wiping

I've been using CDax wipers for some years on grassland. We have had a dock problem this year from the flooding and the wipers have dealt with them very effectively over the last couple of weeks. I use a gang of 3 X 2.4metre wipers behind an old IH250 having added units over the years. Using one on its own was a bit tedious but a gang can cover a surprising area in a day. I tend to use just roundup and docks seem particularly easy to control if growing well as they are tall and large leafed. Creeping thistles are cleared up fairly well but have needed repeat passes each year to keep them completely in check. The heavy rain in the last couple of years has eliminated them more as they don't seem to like getting their feet wet.
Rushes are also controlled effectively if done slowly with a high conc. solution and again benefit from redoing in following years as maybe 80% are killed in each pass.

So what sort of dilution rate is being used? 25% glyphosate? or higher?

Logic recommend 5% (1:20) in theirs, if that helps. (Edit: just looked it up in handbook)

Just re sprayed, repaired & rebuilt a rusted out
Logic one, but not tried it out yet. Watching responses to this thread closely.:)

I'm planning on buying one mostly for creeping thistle but also some rushes, so interesting thread for me. The cdax one with the wings looked good as it would cover more ground quicker, but do the brush ones, like quad-x, do a better job?

Have logic 2000 good to use and works well problem we had was if you did the wiping then any shorter weeds missed. Came up later on as missed so ended up doing them later and had wiper set almost on the floor after sheep had eaten it off well. Used many things in it anything should work used roundup once found wheels picked it up and killes stips off I was mainly doing for others with a 300cc quad on it got that ontop of them in 3-4 years now they spot spray was thistles though iv just bought a sprayer for my own ground will spray bad bits and follow up with the wiper later on and next year. Try it on my 500cc quad had it on this while swapping quads last year

The brush is the way to go better than the carpet type but if you can spray then use wiper to keep ontop of it. While we on on the subject iv a big problem with rushes in my meadows not mega wet but they keep coming back
What will kill them or knock them back round ups a no as tyres pick it up iv sprayed some this time with headland staff 500 24d as recommended buy supplier for rushes the field iv sprayed its done good job on thistles docks buttercups but rushes look no different after 2 weeks. Was wondering about topping them and spraying next day or few days after to let the spray into them.

I think you need MCPA in for rushes (H.Polo rather than Staff). I've sprayed a lot (for buttercups) with Staff this year and used a bit of Polo up on a small patch of rushes. They don't look any different yet though, after 2 weeks.:(

On the wipers, I think they did trials at Innovis a couple of years ago and the Logic wiped the floor (excuse the pun) with the carpet ones they tried. Carpet ones are a lot cheaper though.

we have a c-dax one here
4.3 meter one

spent hours this year doing thistles mainly with verstile had a great kill with it and simple to use just followed the sheep once they grazed a block out made a hell of a diffrence

only down side i found is have a few spair wipers if in rocky going as they can get damaged and i replaced the wing bolts with a bigger size too light in the bolt sizes .. it would be good if there was some form of ajustment for the wings as they are fixed hight ok 90% of the time but would be handy if doing higher weeds in crops etc

takes a few goes to work out the right speed and setting on flow controler so a case of checking the wiper a few times to see how the mats are working

Iv sprayed one bout up my hay meadow where there is a patch of rushes as a test with staff so far not seeing any effect iv some lime in the way to try and improve the ph but its smothering the grass now last years cut I had that many rushes in the hay I was using the waste as bedding I'd say 20% of some bales. Iv wetter fields with less rushes in.

Logic is easy to use but I rarely use the control box I normally run on constant pump and use power switch to put on and off when needed as found as weeds varied across fields you where always changeling the setting or the brush gos dry or starts to drip off I could get it just right if I do it myself also the small 90l tank is now a spare and use a 130l one if not on steep ground and different pumps as one supplied was a pain I'm now using cheap pumps and replace when buggered. Keep the old tank and mount it on the wiper on my homemade mounts if working very steep ground but bring water to it to fill save running wiper back to the farm
