I’m starting to feel guilty when we load up a load of 2 year old Angus. On the other hand I like beef & understand its just how it all works. They’re born & reared on our farm & you end up talking to them.
The cows that stands at the back of the parlour lookin a pet and ye talk to her is a bitter thing to have to send

Testing today, had an incalf heifer that was running up and down the pen half demented. Would gladly have sent her to wd.
Served one like that in January, came in heat again last Wednesday. Tried to put a slip on it to tie it up for the AI man. No chance!! Anyway, it went straight in the trailer with a cull cow the next day. Made £1,300. Result! 😂 got plenty more bulling heifers

What did the AAX make, do you know?
it made £758, not sure p/kg

but l assumed it was AAX, and have to admit l was wrong.

we bought it as a calf, from a spring grazing herd, apr 2017, and sold it to sons mate, as a suckler, with a calf, as it didn't give enough milk to feck about with, and therefore it was a very xbred milking cow, which didn't milk ! But it looked like an AAX ! Would have been around the £1.40p mark, l would think, about 525kg. We put it through the parlour, as had a dead calf, and looked milky, went from 25litres to about 10 litres, in 2 weeks, nice and quiet though.

so the reason we sold it in the beginning, proved to have been correct, very low milk yield. If as he said, correctly, it came from here, assumed it was born here, and would have been AAx !

You guys are overthinking it. Every cow has it's day.
sometimes we keep them for to long, and things don't end so well.

would rather take a favourite to abattoir myself, rather than end up shooting it on farm, for injury or welfare issues.

farming is a business though, we just get too attached to some things ! Think of what lord sugar would do ! Thankfully l am not as hard as him !

I’d happily shoot Sugar myself as well as all the c***s on the Apprentice.

get asked why we take culls to Salisbury mkt, 'they don't make the money there'

well, both of ours yesterday, would have been in the 'top 5' list at Sedgemoor, this week.

say's enough really. But there are other advantages, easy road for us to get there, but they don't start selling culls till 12.00, and stores 12.30, which gives us plenty of time to get there, without rushing around (y) (y)
