Weaving sabre tine user thread

I’d be interested in trying these. I’m a big fan of the Sabre.
My flints got through a set of standard tines in a season (I was quite impressed they lasted that long on my soil), and I tried a set supplied by APM. Pictures below.

The APM ones have a hard faced side-channel, and an integrated seed tube. They’ve done a season and still have 50% left to go, so twice as good as standard tines.

I like the look of the BTT ones though. Any chance of trying one before buying a £6k set?
Changing from Weaving to Metcalfe has more than doubled life of points and tubes on our abrasive flinty soil. I was a bit concerned about the increase in width from 10 to 12 mm, but was not an issue, but would be wary of the width of the Borgault points, turning it into a cultivator drill

Yes no problem. Do you have a new APM one that you can run along side the BTT one as a comparison trial

There is a 13mm wide option. Width is not the only thing that causes disturbance. The wrong design and angles also cause greater disturbance.

These other legs have a fixed seed tube, I thought the idea was to run the leg a bit deeper than the seed depending on soil and slotting.
More so in osr?

In reality who actually adjusts the original sabretine tube. The seed always ends up in the slot no matter how high you drop it from.
We have struggled with the seed tubes on our Metcalfe points blocking this spring, maybe to wet but tried them level with the ground when drilling and right up but still 2 or 3 tubes blocked every run, do you not get any bother with yours blocking seed tubes

Cripes! Is that with beans? Are they worn at all? I did notice as the wear the hole gets smaller as the metal ‘splays’ inwards but no I’ve had maybe 3 mud blocks all spring? Usually starting off from stationary in the corner. Sabretine are bigger/rounder and I’ve never blocked one of them but always use that in the dry.

I’ve found the exact same experience, never blocked a tube in beans until the sides started wearing and pushing the sharp bits inwards, quick whizz over with the grinder sorted them

If this question is aimed at BTT then we use the existing seed tube that weaving use. - However the design of our Replaceable Tip Leg adds protection to the Weaving Seed Tube (see photos after 500 acres of spring drilling). We are working on a Cayenna version with a solid seed tube but this will have
an angled - open backed seed tube to prevent blocking

No, it was spring oats.
There seems to be no dry this spring. We are on the coast and it just seems to be damp and overcast all the time so the soil is just sticky

I’ve been asked several times about my APM tines that I’ve been using. As I said, they’re excellent, and are proving to be much harder wearing than standard versions.

I don’t sell them, but speak with Mac or Scott at APM and they’ll sort you out.

I’ve actually decided to sell my 6m Sabre, and it’s for sale in various places (including here) if anyone is interested.

New this thread so apologies if it’s already been asked, but had anyone retro fitted better wheel track eradicators on their sabre time? Got a 3 year old 4.8 with the new plastic tank. Never been happy with the job the originals have done. Generally drilling on land that has been sumo trio’ed or carriered. Heavy clay. Thanks l, Sam

Well, the Weaving customer support is as exemplary as I was led to believe.

Having never really had to use it for two years, I had reason to need their help yesterday. I messaged (bearing in mind it was a Sunday) to say I had an issue, and they arrived at lunchtime today (Monday) and by 5pm it was sorted, and up and running again.

Can’t fault that at all.
But the burning question is this with your new drill or your old 1??
