Farmer Wink

is it not all show for the telly and radio play the amiable country yokel with straw sticking out of gob a stereotype of how towns folk perceive the farming industry,if so it should be discouraged farming is a hightech industry where science and innovation is to the forefront.it really is just showing towns folks what they want see but i suppose he makes a good living at it.
He makes his living from farming...not being a celebrity!!! He is 100% being himself!!! He learnt his skills the old-fashioned way and doesn't need fancy gadgets to tell him how to farm. If all the high-tech stuff was taken away from farmers tomorrow, could you still farm then?

yes,but if you want to feed an ever increasing world population technology is the answer.

@grumpy has a point *choke* @Crystal do have any pics with your uncle to clarify the relationship?
Not that I have to prove myself to anyone but as requested, I enclose a pic of a young Farmer Wink with his classic car(Molly) which he still owns and also a pic of myself as a girl with my Uncle. I don't have anything more recent, as we're not in the habit of taking pics together when we see each other!!!

ahh but dear sid correct me if im wrong your an organic farmer?by the way technology and science is the salvation of all mankind.

We only have a finite resource to feed the growing population and technological advances will help achieve this, be it crops that thrive in harsh conditions to best practice and efficiency when rearing livestock.

Not sure where it will end up with lab grown milk and meat but for sure it's not a future I'm looking forward to - could you imagine the day having a vat of pink goo at home that you 3D print into the shape of a burger or meatball?

@caveman good luck with the Catholics ;)

The only technology that will save mankind is contraception.
or zyclon b ? so i think i will stick with my original thought science will save mankind whether that be transfer of matter in to food stuffs or warping space so we can get past einsteins universal speed limit then we could travel to new worlds.just out of interest would this be enforced contraception of the undesirables?

There are skilled farmers all over the country who embrace technology and use science to their best advantage. On top of this they are talented businesspeople and are great at handling money.

And there are quite a lot of them who speak in their strong local dialect. In particular I'm thinking of some guys from the NE of Scotland and the Central Belt. They may have a thick accent , they don't have a thick head.

You might speak like a yokel , but that doesn't mean you have to think like one. Some sharp customers I've met are trading cattle for a living and you'd have to be up early to be upsides those boys.

I like meeting my fellow farmers from other areas and hearing their local tongue. It would be a shame if we were all the same as each other.

I got to know Farmer Wink several years ago when he came on the stand I was on at the Lincolnshire Show. I've lived in Lincolnshire all my life, and I often hear people come out with words that Wink uses all the time around here. While at the show, he put his hand in his pocket (without being prompted) and bought a handful of raffle tickets from the air ambulance people to win a TV. And as he said, he had no intention of watching it if he won, but would donate it back. I know the farm where he worked, and he worked very well with the best technology to hand at the time. There are very few proper tractor drivers of his (and my own fathers) ilk left, the ones I look up to who can keep a straight furrow all day without guidance. Or spend all day on their phone to mates. A lot of tractor drivers out there, but not many that can drive tractors. He is a straight up, honest, hard working man, who wears his long service medal with pride.
Hope you enjoyed London Wink.

You are quite right Grumps. My father grew up on Grey Fergies in the 50's, and today can plough a furrow as straight as an arrow with a Quadtrack and 8 furrow plough. Time, technology and progress move on in leaps and bounds. People like you and my father learnt a skill, that I could never quite manage, as you grew up with the forward march of progress and machinery's evolution. It isn't tosh, it's just a fact that old tradition and skills die out......but then that leaves us with another intelligent subject for the future.....and that is 'our history'.
