Got one of these due in next week....among its listed faults are the 4wd wont disengage, and the handbrake relay and light are constantly buzzing even with the handbrake off

You all know how much i love fixing electrical problems, so which wires do i need to grope at in order to find whats up with it? 4wd will be spring engaged, hyd solenoid disengage? New relay for handbrake or just pull it out completely? Not bothered if handbrake light works, just need to stop it buzzing all the time

any suggestions?

Switch seized usually.
Good little tractors

Its on an equestrian unit, lets just say its not well loved

first job, before all the above, it to weld the exhaust back on to stop it blowing smoke up the cab window

Got a bomford cam lock loader on it too, rather oddly thats plumbed directlyinto the two rather stiff cable controlled spools as opposed to a joystick, also on wide low profile grass tyres

shes certainly a bit of an oddity bless her

Yes I've seen a few plumbed into the spools.
Bit odd system[emoji50]

especially when you want to open and tip a hydraulic tailgated trailer

If it was me, and i had to be constrained to running it via the spools, id have a male hyd coupling into a T piece, then a tap on the T branch, with loader feed off it, and female coupling on the run of the T.. would mean turning taps off, but much easier than having to unplug 4 pipes every time you want the rear spools in use?

Just check brake lights work. That and 4wd share the same fuse.

Brakes on 4wd engages iyswim

In fact if it's doing mainly yard based loader work in 2wd it's often best to fit an override switch to stop 4wd engaging with braking. It saves the front axle no end of grief.

It does some strange things....the handbrake relay/light is on when its idling, rev it to a certain point and it starts intermittently flashing on/off and clicking like the indicator relay does, but the 4wd seems to remain in gear all the time

Ah but with the ford you will only get paid if we tell you

A- where the flux capacitor is (and what it looks like)

and...........

B- how to replace it

Now obviously we can be bought for this info but I will have to consult with @Nearly @7610 super q And @cfr1964 amongst others about our fee!

Can't offer much help....40 series electrics are a mystery to me as well. Unfortunately the previous owner of mine was a bit of a pillock-bodger and has disconnected all the connections, presumably looking for problems, and taped them all up again....badly. Not had any problems so far......but I won't be pressure washing underneath in a hurry.;)
Mines 2wd as well, thus avoiding any front axle issues.

Edit- BFF has a good thread on 40 series probs....(y)
