Sorry for the rather tardy reply !! - Yes I've done all that - it's just this rattly noise I'm bothered about...it does use a bit of water and I do check and do regular oil changes - it had loads of the leak sealer in which made a difference I think - it doesn't have a hard life so as long as...
Well just to update - took the top off which was a bit awkward hanging upside down in the cab !! Couldn't see anything amiss in there - stuck it all back together. I guess I'll find out eventually if it's something important!! If anyone on here does have any spares/parts I'd be interested - pls...
Seems to have a bolt on both sides and maybe a plug on the LHS but can't really see. The manual just says to use the dipstick on the top (which makes sense) - I'm guessing that the dipstick passes close to a gear and it's maybe had a circlip pop off allowing it to move a bit ?? - It's clearly...

I know it's been a year !! but I thought it would maybe make sense to add to this thread - I'm also interested in any Collins bits that are available...but my question is re the transmission dipstick - I haven't (yet) taken the top plate off to investigate but I get a metallic rattling from time...

Well looks like I ought to have spent a little more time looking before buying - It has a porous block - or worse. Seems to run fine but only if you don't fill the radiator !! Anyone fixed these in situ or is it an engine out job ?
A little update if anyone is around/interested - Finally took delivery this morning (in the rain) so not had a lot of time yet - poor thing needs a bit of TLC - it is a green 440/2 with a ford engine. It has had a plate welded either side of one of the booms - looks solid enough; if it sounds...
