More doom and gloom:- 350 mile "wall of rain". https://www.msn.com/en-gb/weather/topstories/uk-to-be-hit-with-350-mile-wall-of-rain-according-to-weather-maps/ar-AA1qyH3l?ocid=msedgntp&pc=HCTS&cvid=8efca1053d364e12815c28c5b8155d05&ei=7

Yet more rain today, but two weeks dry from tomorrow, thank goodness. Starting wheat on Monday - hopefully the last of the SO straw baled last Wednesday evening will be dry enough to haul by Sunday. :joyful: :joyful:

    Harvest '24 hold-up ?

Last of the spring oats Wednesday evening, but still lots of wheat, barley and oats to be done locally, and acres of wet straw not baled. Unfortunately, we've had a long run of years here when it's paid well to wait by saving money on drying costs.

Yet more heavy rain here - not looking good for wheats still out. Things are now so bad that not even the Met office can seem to tell their Highs from their Lows. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Met Office chart showing exactly why our wheat all needed drying - And, as a final gift from '24, yesterday we were rained off seed cleaning for '25. :D

    Harvest '24 hold-up ?

Rained off yet again. :singing: Spring Oats down to 19% last evening, so had made a start. 8 weeks since our first WB - longest harvest here since 2012. Was 14 weeks in 1974. 😂

Rained off here, yet again. Meanwhile, ever more doom and gloom from Europe - https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/uknews/farmers-call-for-government-actions-as-severe-drought-in-serbia-forces-early-harvests/vi-AA1ptjaN?ocid=msedgntp&pc=HCTS&cvid=c5a957252ec449ad8397e5540cea3d91&ei=19

Lowest moisture wheat we cut this time was 17%, highest 25%, averaged 19.5. Making certain to clear it all before it sprouted.

    Just an observation

We're much luckier here than many (about 15% down on long term average) - our one and only very drought-prone field weighed in its best in 60 years.

    Harvest '24 hold-up ?

    That'd be a good week's drying for us. 😂

Could do with a couple of thousand acres of chalk. Anybody heard how T Hectares is getting on this year?

    Just an observation

Works fine here, on the shale. Best option would be to DD the shales and SFI the clays. This would mean accurately mapping the 50 or 60 different patches here in each of 100 or so different fields. Just the kind of thing that the new technology's very good at.

    Just an observation

Direct drilling conversion is quite as frustrating to negotiate as were all those legendary irrational markets. It'll all come good in the end. 😂 https://quoteinvestigator.com/2011/08/09/remain-solvent/
