FEC varying with DM% of sample?

So they (Aussies) have worked something out. Was it as simple as a doubling of DM% resulting in a doubling of FEC, or something of that order? As for estimating DM, why not have another rough and ready 1-5 scale as for dagginess, or the 1-12 of the Beaufort scale! Agree that the trend is as...

FEC varying with DM% of sample?

Do we need to make allowance for this when calculating the FEC? Suppose lamb A, 30%DM dung and lamb B, 60%DM may have identical worm burdens but would you expect to get the same FEC result? How would they vary? Anyone sufficiently anal to have worked it out?

    Missed orf vaccination

Erratic supplies of Scabivax this winter - Is there any evidence that a pre-lambing vaccine injection for ewes in 2022 might extend to cover a second lambing season?

    Toxo in vaccinated ewes

See GO's advice on the Schmallenberg post, he says vaccinate ( against toxoplasmosis) at least 8 weeks before tupping, the "official" advice is 4 weeks. Is 4 weeks long enough?

    Schmallenberg?

Re vaccination: I find advice to vaccinate with Toxovax can be at least 3 weeks before tupping, or 4 weeks but now from GO - 8 weeks is recommended. Are we all using the same vaccine or has the advice been updated?

Introducing Cambridge Sheep Genes to improve Lambing %

Don't think anyone has looked at Clun or Llanwenog for relevant mutations as yet and it may be too late at least in the case of the Llanwenog, litters are now history. Is it possible to say where the mutations came from in the Cambridge without having looked at all the different foundation...

is johnes disease widespread with sheep ?

Is that (undeclared vaccination) why the incidence of Johnes in NZ (70%?) is so high? Does imported stock have to be vaccinated (NZ to UK)?

    Black Welsh mountain

DNA analysis points to a Norwegian (Viking) origin for the Black Welsh Mountain breed, it's quite distinct from all other Welsh breeds. So, yes, their make up is quite different.

    Lamb with Stiff Neck

Agree with Sheep. Had the head lifting problem discussed on the old forum, the consensus then was that it was wryneck caused by lack of space/poor position in the womb. That might cover Jerry's case but my cases were like focussed's. Was told later that the head-downers were due to glucose...
