Indeed. I’ve enjoyed it immensely. Apart from the planning stuff.

    Clarkson again

Having been forced to meet the Fletchers on their farm by my wife a couple of years ago I found them to be really likeable people who were genuinely enjoying what they were doing. They realised how innocent and clueless they were but were keen to learn. I saw Kelvin speaking on BBC Breakfast a...

You’ve answered your own question. it is for light entertainment for people with no involvement or understanding of farming

    Farm fertilizer

You may well already be putting too much P on. 24-4-12 +S would be better but still, what’s your P indices like?

Disastrous winter crops - cultivate out how?

Well no actually. You need to be clear in your mind that the first crop’s costs are isolated and view the possible next crop as a fresh start. Trying to make it pay for both attempts is just a silly thought process. In our own case we didn’t sink too much cost into it. Weather didn’t allow...

    plants gas emission

Unfortunately that quote from Christine Baes is not correct, although it sounds like it should be. It has been shared all round the tinternet so is assumed to be correct. I think she was correctly quoted but has been somehow misrepresented within the context of the quote. I rather think she...

Disastrous winter crops - cultivate out how?

Yeah, I’ve finally given up on trying again on those fields this year. We’ll concentrate on stubbles that we’re in charge of ish, and stop stressing about those fields.

Michael Gove and the Conservatives did this.

Indeed. Minorities that make the most noise are running the show now and it’s getting worse. This will only change when someone appears who actually speaks for the majority. If someone does they’ll win by a landslide.

Disastrous winter crops - cultivate out how?

I’m starting to think I should maybe order my winter cereal seed 14 months early and store it a year to make sure I’m in charge of sowing date in any given autumn, rather than relying on merchant seed deliveries…

Disastrous winter crops - cultivate out how?

Wholecrop is my default option anyway. Last year’s spring barley was about 12" high because of the drought just as it was about to get going. Been trying to go more winter but that hasn’t worked out well this winter… Yeah, I know, grass. There’ll be more of it going into autumn I can assure you.

Disastrous winter crops - cultivate out how?

Shame. I doubt there’s much in the way of exudates frankly. Better glyphoed or not?

Disastrous winter crops - cultivate out how?

I’m half-minded to destroy the rye somehow and just scratch something in as you say. But what? Am I too late to get SFI money this summer?
