Did the same job 2 days ago. Knock the roll pin out, and the end will come off, then knock the shaft out, try and not mushroom the end over or it will get stuck and you'll have to grind the end down. Clean it up and put it back together with some grease.

They way you have it wired at the moment is like putting 2, 12v battery chargers on a 24v vehicle and expecting it to charge to 24v, putting two on is only upping the amperage not the volts.
If the noise goes away with the fan belt off, surely it has to be something that is being driven off the belt. Alternator etc, could even be a problem with the crank pulley.

Had the same problem with a manitou a few years ago the pipe feeding the joystick bust so had no way of lifting the boom. Ended up lifting it up slowly with a block and tackle over a day or two. Got it up enough to get the pipe off.
