shearing hand piece knowledge for dummies

I think it's something Heiniger were looking at seriously about 20 years ago, trying to get an even heat across the comb during grinding to prevent adverse effect on the tempering. I'm sure I remember Tom Wilson telling us that he'd been working with them developing a comb that had a couple of...

shearing hand piece knowledge for dummies

As I understand it, the idea of running off the edge is because the outside of the plate is moving much faster than the inside. Throwing 3 teeth off the edge prevents over grinding and excessive heat build up.

Hopefully this is of some use. For a Heiniger set-up but the process is fairly universal.

    Shearing head piece red hot

If it's hot at the front, grease both ends of the tension pin, check the chicken feet are moving freely, take them out and grease them as well. If the barrel gets hot try getting more oil on to the center post, make sure to do it frequently, with the tension off so oil can get right up into the...

    New shearing machine

Very similar spec and price and will both run much the same so choose the colour you like best. For the work you describe, both will be fine but if you've any ambition to do a bit more shearing then a Nexus or equivalent will be well worth paying extra for.

    Leyland 255

This is the lubrication chart from the 344 handbook but should be the same for your tractor I think.

    Leyland 255

Yes, they had a 3cyl Perkins, same as an MF 135 I think.

    Leyland 255

Found an old manual but it's for the wrong model unfortunately. The only other thing I could find specific to the 255 was a book of service cards for export tractors. Thought it might be of interest.

    Bull drinkers

We've got the byre type drinkers in our bull pens but still get the odd bull that messes with them and runs water into the pen. Good and strong though, they don't need constant repairs like some of the plastic drinkers do.

    Could a Kverneland 832 chop potatoes ?

Used to chop turnips in a Teagle 4040, worked grand except a lot of the smaller roots would bounce of the rotor and fly out the back of the machine. We cured it by putting mesh on the rear guard. I guess a trailed machine would have a similar problem and you'd end up with spuds flying all over...

    Gategate

Just had a chuckle at this thread, so far the collective says definitely at the top, definitely at the bottom, and maybe in the middle as well. Plenty wide enough but not too wide. Guess it just proves that there's no hard and fast rules for this sort of thing. As I see it the op has three...

Period implements for a Ford 4000

A Ransomes Cropguard sprayer would look just right on the back of a 4000, By coincidence I happen to have a nice one I might sell if you're interested?

    Vecoxan price??

Vets were £120/litre for Vecoxan. They have an alternative product called Tolracol at £90/litre so decided to try it. I think Elanco are taking the pi** with the price rise on Vecoxan this year so I'll spend my money elsewhere.

    Bleeding calf syndrome

Unfortunately cows are susceptible for the rest of their lives once they have been vaccinated. I recon a lot of people will have had bleeding calves and not realised. If the calf doesn't bleed externally then it can look just like pneumonia until you PM them. What really annoys me is that we...

    Bleeding calf syndrome

Good to hear it's still on the go. Yep, that seems to be the way with bleeding calves unfortunately, always the biggest, strongest ones that get hit hardest. My theory is that because the antibodies in the colostrum attack the calf's bone marrow, then the strong calves that suck a large amount...
