Great thanks. I doubt if he will keep going over the same area so it sounds like it will be ok. It's just the perfect weather for it all this weekend and my friend is free with the quad to Harrow. Bit of light rain forecast next week and the ground isnt too wet or dry so I need to get it done now.

Ah ok, I see. Yeah I am weed controlling the hard way. I just love bending over pulling thistles! Good for the hamstrings though :)

Thanks all. The field is sloped but not steeply so and drains well. It won't need to be used in the winter much unless along our track etc. It's really just to top/harrow 1 acre or so at a time while the rest is being grazed. If the whole field needs work we will get our field neighbour in with...

Hi. We are looking at buying a second hand honda quad. We want to tow a small trailer, topper/mower and chain harrow behind it. Will 2WD be powerful enough or does it need to be a 4WD? It only needs to service 2.5 acres.

Ooooh... How bad is it? Just googled it! They don't sound too bad.....It seems I am doing the right thing by digging them up now before they flower.

A couple of photos of the thistles. They are smallish at the mo with a central big root and lots of smaller thin roots from the middle bit. So creeping, spear or something else? :)

Is anybody on here an expert on identifying thistles? I know they are thistles but not what sort? I will take some photos tomorrow.
