Were on our 2nd Polaris, great vehicle but like all utv they cannot be taxed as a light agric unless run on white diesel. If you don’t do many road miles or go less than a kilometre from your farm you will be ok.
We got stopped and was told if we’re caught again they will impound and charge us...
We’ve tried for a few farms and as we had built up a flock while still in full time work getting the funds wasn’t a problem.
Biggest problem is finding the farms, length of tenancy but the biggest problem was the high rent.
We could break even at £120 an acre and would have to make money by...
A neighbour uses recycled plastic posts and drills through them and runs plain wire on his fields.
Gives him the option of putting electric through it if he wants and can all be put in with the post knocker
Don’t bother testing now, we had trouble last year and tested the rams that were in that bunch and the semen sample was to poor to tell.

Yeah we crossed a lot with the shorthorn and they look cracking calves but we were less lucky/picky about the bull and ended up calving quite a few.
In 5 years I’ve only calved 3 Devon’s to the Devon and probably calved 15 out of 70 this year to the shorthorn, an Angus over them might be better
Yearlings 350
3-4 months 1-150
Stores 4-450
Finished 450-550.
Cows 550-600.
We are a coastal farm and have Devon’s, they will get fat off fresh air but finishing them is tricky
This might not be the right place but here we go.

My wife and I are currently employed but run sheep of our own and are looking for our first chance to farm in our own right.
