40 serries ford sle pto problems

Chatting to a mechanic this morning who would have worked extensively on those tractors in the day and he said it's damn near 50/50 whether you split it at the transmission or lift off the lift cover. He advised me if we've a good way of working that splitting would be easier. I've adjusted the...

Is the pto accessible from the top or had you to split the tractor?.

40 serries ford sle pto problems

I have a problem with my 8340's pto. Yesterday while on the diet feeder the pto just stopped turning. When it was knocked off and then reengaged you'd hear a slight pull on the engine but nothing happening after that. We've pulled off that round plate to look inside and when you start the...

    Fence post spacings

All creosote stakes here. The treated ones off the co-op used be great once upon a time but there useless now. I use 5ft 4 to 5 inch stakes spaced at 12 yards for leccy wire and 4 to 5 yards for barbed wire depending if there beside a hedge or dividing a field. Thanks to Eu interference this...

    The motors you miss.

Best 2 cars I've ever owned were a 1979 Opel Ascona B, the last of the rear wheel drive Opel's and a 1987 Toyota Corona (Jap import Carina). The Opel is the only car I've ever owned that could do 85 mph in 2nd and for a 1.6 is also the hardest Euro car on petrol at a shocking 16 mpg. It's...

    Grain yields 2022

I've only cut the one field yet and that has done well at 4.6 ton an acre. Cassia and the moisture was 20%. It was brackling down very badly and with the forecast for thundery downpours next week I decided to take the crop off. No idea on bales as the straw is as green as a leek and will need a...

    Dad thinks I'm mad

Unless your planning on getting into big acres I'd be watching out for a clean 10ft cut machine. You'll get them for small money and most have no electronics at all apart from a couple of lights. I started out with a Massey 520 which I still have and use on one piece of land away from home thats...

Sale of coal for domestic fires to be banned?!

A diesel generator?. I think I'll stick to my solid fuel fires to warm the house here. The house is centuries old so on historical grounds it's my right to heat it accordingly

Go for it. Growing crops is a very enjoyable job to be at.

Sale of coal for domestic fires to be banned?!

Wait and see. We'll all be compelled to huddle around magical electrical radiators heated with leccy thats all very taxable and very accurately taxable. Oh sure the green brigade will laude the environmental benefits of electricity while ignoring the huge chimneys outside the power plants or the...

    Straw walkers blocking up.

Jesus I've never seen anything like that before. Blocked sieves and a blocked up concave alright but never walkers that look like they've been carpeted. I assume the belt is tight enough and your walkers aren't slowing and not turning vigourously enough?. I've cut some pretty horrendous stuff...

High horsepower 4 Cylinders, will they last?!

Up to 150hp I'd have no issue with but 200hp from a 4 banger is to much in my view. Those high hp 4 bangers aren't exactly light on diesel either.

    Vintage tractors petrol engines

Bad compression or excessive hissing into the exhaust or intake manifold as you crank the engine over would be my guess. It's not something I've come across tbh so I'm only guessing there. I wouldn't be worried about it once the engine starts and runs nice and evenly.

    Vintage tractors petrol engines

If your worried about the valves you can get lead substitute in most motor factors. Just add a dose of it to the petrol and away you go. I've a couple of old leaded engines here and I add in that stuff to keep them right.

Diesel petrol and hybrid potentially banned from 2035

Given the choice between listening to a hair drier or a nice throaty roar from 6 or 8 cylinder engine ideally I know which one I prefer. In years to come youngsters will be asking "whats the zero to 70k rpms on the electric motor in that?" Although I suppose they'll have an app for that
