Well they came in the post at lunchtime. Fitted them as I said above and it appears to have worked. Gave the tractor a hard work-out for an hour with the flail mower and no leak at all. Previously it would have leaked pretty much straight away.
Careful examination of the old cover on a thick...
Hmmm - at the risk of irritating those who have given advice I have decided not to set fire to it, or use the matchbox to rough up the gasket, or invest in a Swan......
I did a bit (a lot!) of Googling and there seems to be a very strong lobby these days NOT to use RTV silicone anywhere in...
Simple problem that up to now is not proving simple to resolve. Once the engine gets warm and I work it a bit oil leaks from the rocker cover gasket.
1976 MF135 Perkins 3.152 diesel as per....
If you see my earlier thread - the tractor is new to me a few weeks ago...
Well thanks to all who responded. I adjusted the PTO plate spacing per the link above (I went for 1.4mm because I have a piece of sheet steel that thickness slightly more than the 1.3mm recommended in the link) and all works fine. Goes into and out of live drive without any grating etc.
Easier...
Thanks Andy,
Found this with a search given I now knew what to look for.

No need to remove the cover - see my other posting and your reply!
Will advise what happens when I have a go tomorrow.

Clutch pedal re-adjusted, but still have the problem with the PTO. It will go into ground (lever forward) easily, and back to neutral, but it will only go into continuous (lever back) with the engine off. Also after being in ground and then switching off the lever will not go back into...
Hello all. MF 135 1976 bought a few weeks ago.
See photos below - the PO had a loader fitted and the bracket went across this area. Having removed it this exposes the clutch. Am I correct in thinking there should be a cover on - and that being a late version it should be the 2 hole type, like...
Just an update. Rocker gasket was as you say an easy job.
I do love it when you dismantle something and actually find something wrong. New gasket (with Curil-T on both sides and checked all around) carefully installed.
Doing a few other jobs 'while I'm there' so not yet back running to confirm...
Got a copy of the Operator's manual (which is not very clear on the PTO topic, and does not mention the lever positions) and a 'Shop manual' - like a Haynes workshop manual, but it is very brief on most topics. "Remove bonnet, fuel tank and rocker cover. Replace gasket, cover, refit tank and...
Oops. Just been out and checked and there are 3 positions, and I had only moved it to the middle position. Moving it forward another stop and the shaft stops turning.
Thanks.
Any views on the rocker gasket replacement. Seems like it should be straightforward and as the oil is coming from above...
