Planting trees to fight climate change?

Problem with forests here releasing carbon has been due to forest fires, not so much to deforestation. There is actually more forested land in my province now than there has been for 100 years. I can take a walk in any direction through the woods here and come across old farms, rock walls...

Planting trees to fight climate change?

Frank spends most of his time marketing his beef now, and doing a fine job of it. I've heard of Frazer but don't think I've ever met him.

Planting trees to fight climate change?

To answer your big questions.... Yes, I know Frank Foster, he farms about an hour and a half from me. Not sure about Frazer Hunter....

Planting trees to fight climate change?

About 800 ewes, mostly NCC, a few Scottish Blackface and working on some British Milksheep mules (quality BFL tups not available locally).

Planting trees to fight climate change?

I see a lot of countries worldwide planting trees to absorb carbon. I wonder how much thought has actually gone into this. Canada's forests actually emit more carbon than they capture, and I'm sure it's the same in many other countries...

Tricks to bring sheep into season

A lot of people here are switching to light control, apparently works extremely well but must be done properly or it won't work at all. Most of the flocks doing it here are in full confinement and usually accelerated lambing so it doesn't really ad any cost for them.

    Best heavy duty work truck

Another F250 is probably a really good choice if you can find a newer one. Yes, they are a bit heavy for soft ground but relatively cheap to buy and very reliable. Have 300k on mine (6.4L tt diesel V8) and it's just starting to cost a bit to run now but has never broken down, lots of power...

    Bouncy massey

Have a MF 5612 that was bad for bouncing the rear with any weight on (fert, baler etc). Put the rear tyre pressures up to 25psi and problem solved. Is on Michelin's. I would agree with moving the tyre on the rim as well. Years ago when I was an automotive mechanic our dealership upgraded to a...

    Kubota m6 111

Went into local dealer the other day with the intention of getting another MF 5713. After I was given a quote I quickly changed my mind. The tractor I payed $110,000 for 4 years ago is now $165,000 which is absolutely ridiculous. They've got a couple slightly used Kubota M6 111's which are...

    M F 4709

Have three neighbours with 4710's. All are quite happy with them so far, one complained how rough it was in the field so he only uses it as a yard tractor (it's his smallest tractor). Another works it quite hard running a forage harvester and tmr mixer. I think he had some problems with the...

    MF dyna 4 issue

Thanks , that's very helpful! I'll bring that up with the dealer when I take it in as they didn't seem aware of that issue.

    MF dyna 4 issue

Have a Massey 5612 with 3700 hours, starting to shift a bit harsh in certain gears (4C has a slight shudder) and also quite harsh on the clutch. Has been calibrated many times and it smooths it out for a short period of time, from a few minutes to a few hours . Fluid /filters changed every 1000...

    Very different from NZ

Prolific sheep indoors seems to be the trend here in Canada. We only produce 50% of the lamb we consume so there has been a huge push for more lambs. Good lambs can bring $300 for 6 months of the year so at the moment these intensive farms are profitable . If prices drop significantly or...

    Sheep and Festulolium

Looking at trying a tall fescue type Festulolium as permanent pasture and wondering if anyone is grazing it and how long it holds up? Best to use red/white clover or both with it? We are planting perennial ryegrass and white clover when we reseed now but have 80 acres of very well drained dry...

    Most fertile sheep breeds ?

A lot of people using Rideau Arcott or Romanov in Canada. One farm, now owned by a New Zealand company is up to around 30,000 ewes last I heard. Rideau Arcotts will have 3-5 lambs a year once or lamb 5 times in 3 years or something ridiculous like that. Most flocks in full confinement year...
