    Replacing Farmhouse -planning

The councils in Ireland often insist on this. My parents had to do this 25 years ago and they regret not knocking the lot, the old stone gable is a continuous source of dampness.

    Meatlinc sheep

No, the only other performance recorded ram I've bought is an NZ Suffolk. Again, I've been really happy with how vigorous they are at birth. I bought him to breed replacement ewe lambs for keeping and found them good.

    Meatlinc sheep

I bought one three years ago. I farm on fairly marginal upland in the west of Ireland. I have to say he's been the best terminal ram we've ever had. He still looks in super shape and leaves good lambs with "get up and go" and that grow well. On our ground and with the weather we get, a good...

German supermarket trial climate cost of food

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2023/jul/31/german-supermarket-penny-trial-climate-cost-food-meat-cheese I didn't see any mention in the article about ensuring the producer receives a living wage for their efforts. I'm sure that will be the objective of the next campaign 🙄

    Price of iodine 😱

I use Evans FAM30 for disinfecting sheep slats after a ewe lambs. A year or two ago it was 39 euro here for 5 litres. It's now gone to 69 euro!

    Height adjustable gate posts

Maybe something like this would do the job. It allows you to raise the gate height as straw would build up.

    Lambing Pens

Answering my own query here in case anyone was thinking of trying the same. I got some 9mm stock board to make a 5ft hurdle. This hurdle will be pinned to the wall and I'm using a 4ft hurdle at the front. It's okay but not as solid as I'd like. I've since read that Solway use "agriboard" in...

    Lambing Pens

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could give their thoughts on using 9mm stock board as sheep hurdles. I was thinking of using a 10x5 sheet to get 3 no. 5ft long hurdles to use as side partitions between pens. I'd secure one end of the stockboard hurdle to the wall and use a standard drop pin 4ft...

    Sliding door guides

This is how it was done on the shed here. The bracket/guide is about 4ft from the ground.

    Yorkshire boarding.

https://www.agriland.ie/farming-news/is-you-calf-shed-fit-for-purpose/ There's a drawing in that article with one suggested spacing but maybe someone else has experience. We have space boarding on a shed and it's no good with rain from the prevailing wind.

    permanent sheep yards

Ya, I think they could have made a better job of allowing easy wash down of the facilities without much effort. Designing for light and shadows and sheep flow would be tricky to design around but is definitely an important issue.

    Plastic sheep slats?

The new shed is going up at the moment, the slats are in place now.

    Plastic sheep slats?

I'm going to change the use of that shed now, to have it for machinery storage and more lambing pens. Also the timber we get now isn't a patch on what was put in originally. I thought about putting plastic slats in that shed but then decided against it for a few reasons. The area underneath...
