What prices are you getting for Glyphosate?

Glypho here in mid-Sask in Canada, 540g/l, 1000lt shuttles, $5.79/l = 3.40 UK pounds/lt delivered to farm. As others have said this is a China origin product. We sell some empty, triple rinsed shuttles to a variety of users for $100 each.

Food is too cheap in Britain !

Farmer M If it were not for imports the population would be a lot less and Britain would still be hungry. Good or bad I don’t know, but it would probably have one benefit - the rubber boat people would be discouraged.

    Canada Trade Deal

Canadian view Cheese - I will still buy my 1/4lb triangle of UK Stilton at Christmas regardless of price. (the only other imported cheese we buy is French Brie, as Canadian made knockoff is cr**) Beef - our yearlings leave our farm having never experienced added hormones or feed additives. I...

LET US IMAGINE ANOTHER POLITICAL WORLD ….

Voting system that produces 650 (or pick a number) individuals to govern the land. 650 individuals arrive in Westminster on say June 22nd. Nobody really knows anybody else or what position they have on anything. Who do they look to for guidance? Why, the civil service of course, so nothing very...

    Whos got the snow then

Well if its anything like when I lived there it would be gone in an hour - one benefit of living near the sea. Unlike here, 1200 miles to the nearest sea and snow came in November and will stay until February at least (although right now there’s only a couple inches at most and actually +1C)

    New Holland CR11 Combine - 137 t/hr !!

I do trust the figures, unfortunately, I fill the combines each day. And yes the $ figures work on paper. JD finance would accept the deal the dealer offered us, but my debt comfort level would be exceeded!!

    New Holland CR11 Combine - 137 t/hr !!

Seeing those figures relating to our own situation was as you say ‘interesting’. Were it not for recent investments in land and having a new seeder on order (since June ‘22, now delivered) we would probably have bitten the bullet in September. An order placed now would not see that combine...

    New Holland CR11 Combine - 137 t/hr !!

We had a demo in September of the JD X9 1000. The figures below are from Greenstar data from each combine and relate to cutting Canola, in the same field on the same day. Our 2 existing combines - a 2006 JD 9760 with 30’ Honeybee head, 2017 JD S680 with 35’ JD 635FD. The X9 came with 50’ flex...

The Economics of Importing Food into the UK

With regard to the OP and his 1000 artic loads of daily food imports to the UK. This year, 2023, our farm has produced a gross 9000 tons (give or take) of arable products, feed Barley, feed and milling wheats and Canola. We are 100 kms from the nearest significant city, 1800+ kms from the port...

    2019 all over again?

To follow on from Flatlander’s experience on Canadian land purchase, we bought 1300 acs in Saskatchewan in 1999 for just under $500/acre. We had sold our 110 acre dairy farm in Cumbria earlier that year and moved over here in March 2000. Land prices here have increased by a factor of at least 5...

    They’re coming for you!

Spoke to our lender this morning re loan for a new air drill. Among 7 or 8 security questions - ‘Are you a politically exposed person?’ That’s a first for me, a semi retired farmer in the middle of the Prairies. Briefly felt the need to ask why, but the person at the other end of the phone did...

    Ag bagging grain

We use grainbags as distances from some fields back to base means we have neither trucks nor staff to keep up with combines. If pressed I can keep up with 3 combines in Canola with the grain cart by myself, but come night I was err , tired. Last year we had 14 bags with up to 325 tons/270 tons...
