    Valtra n175

Comes in 40, 50 and a fabled 57 km/h version. Adjustable speed defaults to maximum on startup so that shouldn't be it (at least it does when you don't put a limit on the profile beside using the scroll knob as needed). Check in the Transmission screen that there's no speed limit attached to the...

How to stop an air seat deciding how much air?

On a Grammar Evolution if you pump it to the desired height, release, immediately flick it once and it will hold without releasing air. Took a good month to figure out that trick which helps given that my height is 49.5% inseam. Hopefully you've got a Grammar or the seat can be tricked similarly.

    Led pole bar beacons

Opted for directional warning lights in place of led beacons that were nigh on useless and added too much height. Two 6x 3W LED facing front synched. Four 3x 1W LED (2 facing rear, 1 each side) synched. Resulted in a clean minimalistic look which I prefer and when I remove antennas I can enter...

    Tanker collapse insurance claim

Had insurance claim on 2007 baler pick-up and PTO shaft after finding a ground-fast stone end of last season. £9500 ex.VAT for new upgraded pick-up and new PTO shaft installed. Insurance paid out in full with no issues and I only needed to cover the VAT until I can claim it in January.

    Chainsaw sharpener.

+1 to Stihl easyfile or similar. Quick and easy tune while taking a water break will leave the chain more sharp than once in a blue moon with whatever fancy gadget costing tons more. The fact it takes no effort also means you sharpen more often. Also recommend keeping a dirty chain for cutting...

    Crawling underneath implements

I have two simple guidelines. Raised objects: - What stops gravity? - What happens if it falls? - What are the consequences? - Do I trust that with my life? Spinning/rotating/pressurised objects: - What keeps it in place? - What keeps me from getting hit? - What are the consequences of getting...

    Crawling underneath implements

I trust gravity. If a hydraulic pipe burst/leaks or electric short circuits then gravity will bring it down and I actively avoid placing myself in the middle of that sh!t sandwich.

New grammer seat got a mind of its own

On my Valtra Evolution version of the seat I need extra height due to 91cm inseam vs my 184cm total height and had trouble keeping the seat high enough. Eventually discovered the trick was to hold the paddle to pump air into it and when satisfied do a quick "tap" which stopped the...

    What Motivates You?

I like the idea of freedom farming can give even though dairy is a pretty all-consuming job of which I'm now passing 2500 back-to-back working days tying me up physically and mentally since I took over a well stagnated farm with almost no investment 10-15 years prior. However just an hour ago I...

    What bale grab

Have used McHale roller/spike, but with uneven ground and/or low density bales there were too many nicks and sometimes hidden ones on uneven ground. Then started using an old soft hand, but very long "fingers" with another small bend at the end which has annoyed me for some years. Requiring one...

    quick fixes, bodges and creations

No shutter on this one. Standing next to the platform on the trailer, knife cut 90% the width of the chute and disembowel in increments as the bag empties and lean over the spreader. Some manual labor in order to empty the bag, but not too much once the cut got refined a bit. I do have 2 Raimo...

    quick fixes, bodges and creations

Only having one tractor available so this year I made a prototype platform using 2 pallets, random 2x4 + 3x3 for support legs, some scrap wooden board and splurged on new nails to hopefully avoid it falling to pieces. Tow chain secured to the bag in-case it failed to avoid damaging...

3 Machinery Farm Deaths in 3 Weeks

The problem even with guarded pto is the very common broken plastic eye holding the securing chain stopping the guard from rotating as well. Just needs to get a hold of a piece of loose clothing (wide pant legs, shoelaces, torn piece, etc, etc) to start reeling you in. If someone is invention...
