I have been researching this subject on the net, so far I can see that the third party has to prove me as the owner has been negligent? however they were let out not broke out?

Unfortunately in the night the cattle managed to depart their field, walked to a nearby road and unfortunately one has been hit by a car! (one car written off, one injured cow) Has anyone had this happen before? Where do I stand? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
