I used an aberfield sr as a spare, I normally run lleyn x highlanders. Sorting the ewes yesterday I would say size wise there is very little difference (mostly 2t some 4t) they do stand out though with a bit of BFL style about them!
While the Circus at Lanark will get all the headlines this week there was also a dispersal at Sandyknowe where 230 genuine breeders averaged £720 (ish) I would imagine going to genuine breeders.
Mine were on a new block of land and were dropping dead before they took on any kind of block or creep (about 3 weeks) haven't been brave enough to change policy yet!
I use baycox at about a month here (when they first meet a challenge) that seems to give them the resistance they need. Used to use DB buckets but they didn't build any resistance so had major problems whenever I stopped them.
I believe Sandyknowe and bentley lamb pure ewes outside, probably not on here... it gets a bit tedious constantly being told all suffolks are the same!
Surely the the advantage of suffolk mules is the early lambing, there are plenty of suffolk/mule X char fat lambs making good money at the moment ... I breed suffolks but I wouldn't be lambing them outside in April, I've got lleyn X Highlanders for that job.
