    My uncle uses stabiliser and aubrac bulls on his cows, gets about 150-180 per head from calf rearers. He buy all his replacements off three differnet farms. There are 16 ads on done deal today for cross bred heifers. most dairy farmers would have contacts.

    The reason for not putting the roof is two fold, 1- it will cost 34k to roof it, the tanks are already there, 2- its a low cost system, cross bred cows are hardy and grow a thick coat of hair, its makes the transition to grass in a cold wet February easier. cows will be healthier outside...

    A lot of good comments, Regarding roofless cubicles, lime can be spread on cubicles without roofs and using a teat sealer helps. Re replacement rates, our uncle is milking 280 jersey cross cows and has a replacement rate of 8%, the herd is young which may influence.

    Neighbour bought a 130hp kubota in 2015. He has a New holland old roller baler for doing a bit of hay for his sucklers. Its on its knees baling hay, I think they are a bit light and gutless. I'm going to look at a 2015 fendt 211 on saturday, its been remapped and is putting out 122hp. 1330 hours.

    Re the teaser bull, the uncle keeps his one, hes a 530kg jersey cross. hes outwintered with the cows on kale and fed absolutely no meal. he likes him, thinks hes cheeky!!!! I have no issue with stock bulls mopping up on a herd, but margins nowadays are so tight, how some one can spent big money...
