Has anyone reconsidered QMS this year. I have only been on the scheme for a year but i haven't noticed a price difference from before. I had no problem with QMS inspection last year and already did everything they asked except feed plan and medicine disposal( I had a collection in the buyer of...
My boyfriends birthday is mid lambing on his birthday i lambed 6 ewes and the following day he bought me food, made dinner and helped me lambing ewes at 2 in the morning.
Had an escape of evil tup into my lambs and cast ewes. Got some lambs scanned at scanning but just had to pull out pregnant lambs on a draw. I still have lambs to sell since they are now out of medicine withdrawal, what do i do?
I was thinking about this with a less direct neighbour. We have a similar arrangement with spraying contractor and shearer. It just made less sense with the scanning. As my direct Neighbour Can get his sheep in my yard easily so one set up needed.
Hi I am taking my Tups out this week and scanning early next year. The problem being i don't have a large number to scan 120 ewes total, does anyone know a scanner in the Lanarkshire area that would scan for me? Last year i got my lot scanned, then did the neighbors at the same time but he has...
Damn why you calling me out like this. The house may have gates and we have a Range rover but it is 15 years old and everyone is a thieving barsteward round here.
Seriously though it is a discovery 4 and it is 15 years old. However it never seen a farm till we got it and it tows heavy enough weight.
I scoffed at white marker i found yesterday but if your marking a lot of black sheep, it is the best marker really. Black would be great because everyone can see it. Even in the non farming Community Colour blindness is fairly common.
I think red green he has said in past that he can't see them well. Problem i am having is the neighbours marking colour are all too similar too the colours i have and would not be clear enough.
A system of shapes seems to be the answers. I need to mark culled sheep, lambs and breeding. Then...
I am wet. I have upped the number need more tups. I am looking to expand the number next two years by keeping replacement. I mostly have cross ewes cheviot /mules after two years go back to terminal for finishing lambs.
Colour blindness is not uncommon in the farming community, my dad being one of them. I work with him with the sheep and he can't see the marking on them, he can see some colours but not if there too close together. How do another people work around that?
For a commericial flock of 300. My ground is heavy clay with moss in places good for grass but not the best. Last year i bought a Tup from ram sale at UA, was pondering if a more expensive Tup would be good and not just die on me. you can spend a lot on rubbish rams from what i have seen.
What has everyone spent on a ram? i am on my second Tupping and have heard two schools of thought. You buy cheaper or from the fat ring and run them then sale the ram( if bad) or you buy a more expensive quality breeding accredited tup and keep for few years. What is everyone's opinion on this i...
