My understanding is that linseed is a very favourable host for arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi. They release glomalin which helps to form aggregates in the soil which benefits the soil structure.
There is some evidence from the PGRO vining pea cover/catch crop trial that catch crops with a high proportion of buckwheat can have a negative effect on the yield of the following wheat crop. I'm sure I have heard this claim from others too.
