    Test drove a Ford Major at a crowded auction. Had no clutch so shoved it into 1st gear at low revs. When moving went to pull stopper to find that wire was not connected. Had to get off, walk beside it and stop at fuel pump. Managed to miss everyone in the crowd.

    2500 hrs is almost 50 hrs a week. OK some long hours in busy periods but still a high average.

    Just after WW2, where I grew up, those "Being a local farmer" were such an essential element of village communities.

    Used one for loading beet into rail trucks in early 60"s. Had extension sides and slats and fitted with hopper. Would either come to halt bunged up with suffolk clay or freeze solid and stand until the thaw came .Was kept much fitter by forking beet from trailer into railway trucks.
