We still have 4 x30 ton ones. Put up in 1962 and still in use, most of the panels looking as good as new too. In much better order than some much newer galvanised grain walling in an adjoining store.
Thinking of concreting a bit of our yard that is currently an uneven stone surface. I’ve layed concrete before but as this is (a) the entrance bit to the yard, subject to heavy farm traffic, and (b) right in front of the house, actually between the house and garden, I want to do a proper job to...
That's great, thanks for the info @andyinv and @Andy26 . I didn't realise you supply PCBs etc Andy26, I might be in touch in due course if all goes well with the lightbar system (y) (y)
After reading threads on here and elsewhere I have decided to go down the agopen route. I have no previous experience of guidance systems, or of electronics, and in general am not particularly "tech savvy" at all.
My plan is, for now, to put together a basic lightbar system with which I could...
£225 for 0.12.18 fibrophos delivered and spread. That seems to be pretty similar to the TSP/MOP prices above, unit for unit.
That's for Cornwall, I guess some of you can get it a fair bit cheaper in the right location?
A couple of fibrophos questions -
Does anyone spread in the autumn on stubbles that won't be ploughed/drilled til spring? I guess its not ideal, but would mean we could have a whole artic load if we did the spring ground as well.
Also for maintenance applications on cereals, is it necessary...
Interesting thread; I've been considering a few changes to the way I run the farm that would essentially make it a part-time job (in theory anyway).
The question is what to do with the (say) 2/3 days a week that it would free up. Have considered many of the usual suggestions - HGV driving...
I know there have been threads in the past about liquid fertiliser but can't find any recent ones. Have been wondering about moving over to it, mainly to improve spread accuracy. Have some questions though:
Firstly, I've heard/read several comments regarding sprayer compatibility. I just...
Thanks very much everyone, some interesting and useful comments there, given me a bit to think about (y)

Own grain. If I did it this year would have to be some bought in silage, might be able to speak to a semi retired neighbour though to see if he has any grass not spoken for. Sheds...
Currently all arable (small farm) and have been wondering about doing some winter stores/finishers, partly for a bit extra income but also to benefit from the dung. Know very little about keeping cattle so would be grateful for a bit of advice -
I have a couple sheds that I could probably...
From what I can see from googling it, the Kvernland trash boards seem to be quite a bit closer to the top of the mouldboard than the UCN ones. Is that a better design?
What's everyone's experience of these, vs skimmers? My understanding is that the pros are an easier pull, cheaper on wearing metal, no clogging between the skim and boards, and no messing about adjusting skim depth, but on the downside more trash left on the surface?
I guess that when it comes...
I don't exactly think that it would.
I can however see some benefit from having an independent "expert" (for want of a better term, at least someone who hopefully knows what they're talking about) having a proper look around and identifying hazards I might have overlooked or rules I might not...
