Likely survival rate of a dog that’s been run over?

Yes paracetemol in the right dosage is fine, my old boy is on palliative care for a tumour and has 1 tablet twice a day. Ibuprofen is highly toxic to dogs my big setter once ate a 400 ibuprofen and promptly threw up which probably saved him. Liquid paracetemol is OK as long as there's no...

    Lamb holding front leg up

OK this is stating the obvious. A lamb at that age going lame, my first thought would be joint ill. Is there any fluid on the knee or "shoulder" joint? If so it is joint ill and requires a course of strong antibiotics and anti inflamatories. I do really hope though that the vet would have...

Border Collie Looking for New Home

Have you tried Protecting Preloved Border Collies? All dogs going foster homes for assesment before rehoming. Very good rescue. You'll find them on Facebook and their website.

What age is your dog? Could it be epilepsy? Often starts about age 2. Hope things improve.

    Quitting a job

I would ring ACAS for free professional advice. Employment law is quite complex.

    Welsh collie 18m old

Welshcollieboy, what is he doing and what are his problems? Some farm bred collies make lovely pets and others don't, mainly I think down to how much working instinct is in them. Often the big problem is that farm bred collies will either be outside doing stuff, or then in a building/kennel...

    Itchy dog

I presume you actually think something of this dog and will not chuck it in the sheep dip! Those suggesting this should try having swim in it first to see how it affects them! Look for fleas you can just see them on the belly usually. If so front line should work most agricultural stores will...

    Charmoise tup for ewe lambs

A charmoise lamb makes a hogg a good mother, because they literally bully the mother into letting them suckle and then the bond is formed. I've seen them crawl out when a useless lazy ewe has given up trying to lamb (when it was even difficult)! Their attitude has to be seen to be belived...

    Collie pup discipline

At 8 weeks old you are bonding. Make being next to you the best place in the universe. Recall then won't be an issue for a while. They don't need to do anything else at that age other than be with you. Then you and pup can explore all new things together and if it's scary you are there to support.

Masses of ticks on sheepdog, best treatment?

I believe the Bravecto type drugs affect all breeds of dogs, not just border collies. I also read that the MDR1 mutation is seen more in Rough Collies not Border Collies. A confusion arising from Americans meaning the lassie type when they use the abbreviation "collie".

Masses of ticks on sheepdog, best treatment?

This is report from US admitting that Nexgard and Bravecto products can cause seizures and neurological problems. I know many use it without side effects but it is something to watch out for, it may not be immediate and be a result of build up with use over time...

    Lamb cocci advice

Just had it (again) in our pets. It takes a few days for them to pick up, they need lots of clean water to drink with hay and some stock ration to tempt them back into eating. If it's too far gone though you may lose them as eating seems to be painful. Once you've noticed the little painful...

Masses of ticks on sheepdog, best treatment?

There is a facebook group "Bravecto kills" or similar dedicated to trying to get it taken off the market. Lots of reports of dogs dying or getting really ill after it. Vets say it's fine though.

    Lazy collie dog

My lot's meal timed can vary 2 hours, doesn't seem to bother them. You could also split it into 2 or 3 meals if that helps. There is a really good website allaboutdogfood or something like that, which compares quality and price of various dog foods. When comparing price remember to look at...

    Lazy collie dog

Just a thought, when she's working does she have access to a drink of water? Thirst can slow dogs down like us.

    Lazy collie dog

As has been mentioned with food - look what comes out of the back end compared to what goes in at the front end - if it's similar volume its not doing much good in the middle! Some sheepdogs thrive on cereal based foods but a lot cannot process it. Grain free might help, I think Skinners do a...

    Ewe not letting lambs feed

You could try pinning her against the hurdles and letting her lambs have a really really good suck, until they are really full. Then pen them up with her but behind a board or something so they can't suckle her for a couple of hours. Her milk will hopefully come through and her udder swell and...

    Heatwave for lambs

Yes we really like ours, had it for 3 or 4 years I think. The new cone thing sounds like a good plan as the older lambs tend to chew the teats, and they have also brought out a new hand pump thingy to help when flushing the pipes through. The cleaning is a bit of a pain, but much less of a pain...
